S

teven Joseph Small, 54, of Stevensville died at home on October 3 after a battle with cancer. Born July 2, 1956, in Annapolis, Steve was the son of the late Joseph and Jean Small. He graduated from Annapolis High School in 1974. He began working at Britt’s Department Store in Parole in 1974. After leaving Britt’s in 1978 he began a plumbing career with Smith and Rawlings until 1985. He earned his Master Plumber’s license in 1984. Two years later he opened Tidewater Plumbing, Inc. which he successfully owned and operated for the past 24 years. Steve was also an instructor for Associated Builders and Contractors’ apprenticeship program. Steve enjoyed model trains, cruising, photography, bowling, golf, Apple computers and Disney. He immensely enjoyed the beach, boardwalk, and sightseeing in Ocean City, MD and was an active member on the Board of Directors at the Tiburon Condominium Association in Ocean City. Steve was a founding member of the Kent Island Elks #2576. Steve is survived by his wife of 32 years, Janice A. Small (nee Purdy), one daughter, Kristina E. Gulbin and her husband, James of Centreville, and a grandchild on the way. Friends are invited to Steve’s Life Celebration on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD 21037 where a funeral service will be held Thursday, October 7 at 11 a.m.. Interment Lakemont Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sarcoma Foundation of America, 9884 Main Street, Damascus, MD 20872. Donations can also be made on-line at www.curesarcoma.org.
