Susan Michelle Parlett - Obituary

usan Michelle Parlett passed away quietly at her Edgewater, MD home on Sunday, July 2, 2017 surrounded by friends and family. She was 53. Born in Annapolis and raised in Edgewater, Susan first gravitated to the pings of a piano played by her father and grandmother and her passion for music was lifelong. She was especially attracted to John Denver, Ricky Nelson, and her all-time favorite, Elvis Presley. Susan attended countless concerts and had massive collections of their performances. Susan enjoyed life with an unmatched exuberance and joy for adventure. In fact, she took her first airplane ride with her father at six months and drifted in the clouds many times with her piloting family, enjoying numerous flights with her grandmother, Florence, out of Lee Airport in Edgewater. A lover of all things horse, Susan spent decades in the saddle and leaves behind many friends at the STAR Equestrian and Maryland Therapeutic Riding facilities in Hagerstown and Crownsville. For Susan, being on and in the water was second nature, she started boating with her family before she could walk. Every summer was dedicated to sand and sea with her beloved Carr family and when not at the beach, Susan spent time swimming with her coach on the Eastern shore. Susan is survived by her mother, Nancy Catterton Parlett and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Leonard H. “Buddy” Parlett, Jr. and her grandparents, Herbert and Alverta Catterton and Leonard and Florence Parlett. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Susan's life on Thursday, July 6 from 12pm until her funeral service begins at 1 pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Susan’s name may be made to the Robert Packard Center for ALS Research, c/c Fund for Johns Hopkins Medicine, 550 N.
