Susan M. Peden - Obituary

S

usan Margrave Peden of Edgewater, MD, New Castle, DE, and Wales, UK, passed away on April 16, 2026, surrounded by her family. Susan was born on October 5, 1949, in Haverfordwest County Hospital in the UK. She was born 15 minutes after her twin brother Peter. Her early years were spent growing up in Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire, UK. Susan is survived by her mother, Edith Margrave, her brother Peter, and wife Susan, their children and grandchildren, daughter Jennifer and grandchildren, Jack Sollers, Sam Sollers, Angel (AJ) Rodriguez, and Gabriella Rodriguez. Susan was predeceased by her father, Harry Margrave; her husband, Gregory G. Peden, Sr.; her son, Gregory G. Peden, Jr.; and her daughter, Kirsten S. Peden. Susan joined the Royal Navy at age 17 as a telephonist. She later moved to Cambridge, UK, where she met her future husband, Greg. He was in the U.S. Air Force stationed at Lakenheath, UK. Greg’s tour of duty was ending, and Susan boldly left family behind, making the transatlantic crossing to join Greg in December 1970 at the age of 21. Greg and Susan were married in 1971 and immediately started their family. Susan had a professional career and attended Wilmington University as a working adult, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Behavioral Science, Summa cum laude. In 1994, Greg and Susan moved to Old New Castle, DE, where they lived with their beloved dog, Winston, and were active in the community. Susan relocated to Edgewater, MD in 2009 to be near her daughter, Jennifer, and her grandchildren. She worked in the area as a Director of Activities for Alzheimer’s patients. Susan had many interesting and varied life experiences. She started out in the Royal Navy, became a U.S. citizen, raised a family, got her bachelor’s degree, had a fulfilling career, and finally retired. Susan enjoyed sewing, quilting, crafting, cooking for friends, shopping at various thrift stores, having breakfast with friends and spending time with her grandchildren. If she were not home, Susan would be playing Rummikub or Poker with her local friends. The family anticipates a memorial service for Susan in the late summer. Donations in memory of Susan may be made to St. Jude's Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or a charity of your choice.
