usan Ann Stover (formerly Hoffmann), 62, of Annapolis, MD died on January 16, 2014 from metastatic breast cancer. She was born in Plainfield, NJ on August 23, 1951. She grew up in Mayo, MD, spending most of her childhood on boats and around the water, most notably her father’s bay built charter boat the “Bay Lady.” Most will remember her driving around town in the “Bay Lady” pick-up truck, even sneaking midshipmen back into USNA. She graduated in the Class of 1969 from Annapolis High School where she was active in sports and played a “roving forward” (for anybody who remembers what that is!) in basketball. She graduated from University of Maryland in Education in 1973, and received a Master’s in Special Education from Loyola University in 1985. Susan taught and later became the head of the math department for Chesapeake Middle school for 20 years before her retirement in 2006. Prior to this she taught at Brooklyn Park Elementary School for 10 years. She was passionate about making a difference in the lives of her students, especially those with special needs. Most notably, she is remembered for her hilarious sense of humor, quick wit and as a professional “Hoffmann giggler.” She always put family first, whether it was her immediate family or those friends she considered family (or her beloved collie dogs). Her grandson Kyle was the joy of her life, although sometimes “getting on her last nerve and she only had one left.” Her biggest wish was for him to work hard and continue to succeed in everything he does. She was up for any creative challenge, whether it was re-designing a room or putting together a gift basket, therefore making her quite the professional shopper. Trained by her father, she was also a professional eaves dropper. Always bringing the best chocolate dessert to any function, usually a UNC or Navy tailgates. A diehard sports fan, she was devoted to the Tar Heels, and supporter of local Navy athletics. She is survived by her loving husband, Keith Stover, of 38 years, son Rusty Stover of Charlotte Hall, MD, grandson Kyle Lambert Marsh of Glen Burnie, MD , daughter Lindsey McGlaughlin and her husband Eric of Columbia, MD, sista’ Peggy Greenwell and her husband Bill Greenwell of Annapolis, MD, their daughter Mattie Dunigan and husband Zach of Annapolis, MD. She is also survived by 3 sisters in laws, and 2 brothers in law and 7 nieces and 7 nephews, 2 great nieces and 2 great nephews. Visitation will be held at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.., where a service will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Laurel, DE.
