n Loving Memory of Sylvia Ann (Foust) Spencer It is with heavy hearts and deep gratitude that we share the passing of Sylvia Ann (Foust) Spencer. Sylvia left us peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of faith, kindness, and devotion that touched everyone she met. Sylvia was born on October 29, 1935, in Annapolis, Maryland to Ruth and Boyd Foust and was married to Jack Spencer for over 70 years, showing everyone around her what true love looks like. Growing up in Annapolis, she learned the importance of compassion, perseverance, and faith—values that guided her throughout her life. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. Sylvia was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Annapolis. She gave her time generously, serving in many church roles and always offering a helping hand or a listening ear. Sylvia’s love of music shone through as she sang in the church choir since age 15, sharing her joy and spirit with her congregation. Sylvia graduated from Annapolis High School in 1953 and spent 52 years working as an Administrative Assistant in the Executive and Attorney General’s offices, becoming the longest-serving employee in the history of the State of Maryland. She was also deeply involved in her community, especially with the Gingerville Community Association, where she served as the welcoming committee for new residents for over 40 years. Sylvia found happiness in her garden, tending to her flowers, knitting, and making her coveted pickles and peach jam for family and friends. Her home was always filled with laughter and warmth. Family was Sylvia’s greatest joy. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and proud great-grandmother. Her wisdom, gentle spirit, and unconditional love will be missed by all who knew her. Sylvia is survived by her beloved husband of 70 years, Jack Spencer; her children, Dale (Mary) Spencer and Bruce (Donna) Spencer; nine grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Sylvia’s life on Wednesday, December 17, from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM at Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD 21037. Her funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, December 18, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1300 West Street, Annapolis, MD 21401. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. In keeping with Sylvia’s generous spirit, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, in lieu of flowers.
