Teresa Morris Cox - Obituary

rs. Teresa Cox, 99, originally of Clinton, MD passed away peacefully at her home in San Diego, CA on Thursday, April 30, 2026 with family at her side. Born October 10, 1926 in North Bergen, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Amelia (Tomaro) Morris. She married her husband, A. Ritchie Cox, Sr. on February 3, 1951 at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church in Hyattsville, MD. They resided in Clinton, MD for more than 40 years and served as active parishioners of St. Mary’s Catholic Church Piscataway, MD. Teresa worked as the Librarian at St. Mary’s Elementary School for many years until her retirement in 1989. In retirement, she and Ritchie spent many a week enjoying the beach in Ocean City, MD. Together they lovingly cared for their eldest daughter, Anna Marie, until her passing in 2006. They remained devoted to each other for 61 years until Ritchie’s passing in 2012. In the years following, she spent happy times with her three sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren, often vacationing along Virginia’s Eastern Shore and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Teresa spent the last ten years with her daughter and son-in-law, Teresa Mary and Alan in San Diego, CA. She spent her days in true leisure, taking in the Southern California sunshine, walking along the beach at Del Mar, strolling amid the wildflowers of Anzo Borrego Desert and lounging on the back patio while admiring the myriad hummingbirds that came to visit the feeders. Deeply devoted to the Blessed Mother, she prayed the rosary each afternoon. She celebrated many a Sunday evening happy hour with a ‘mocktail’ and playing Yahtzee. She often traveled to Warsaw, MO to spend time with her daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Ronnie, as well as her grandchildren and great grandchildren and take in the sights and explore museums around Western Missouri. She is survived by five children, Frank (Leslie) Cox, Christine (Ronnie) Letcher, A. Ritchie (Karen) Cox, Jr., Dr. Teresa Mary Cox (Alan Bradshaw) and John Cox (Julie Jacko); ten grandchildren, Francine, Sarah, Angela, Michael, Kristina, Brenndan, Alex, Rebecca, Meg and Aidan; four great grandchildren, Sophia, Kenny, Carter and Emilia Rae; and one sister, May Toepfer. Relatives and friends are invited to Teresa’s Life Celebration on Thursday, May 14 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. at the KALAS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 6160 Oxon Hill Road, Oxon Hill, MD 20745. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, May 15 at 10 A.M. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Piscataway (Main Church), 13401 Piscataway Road, Clinton, MD 20735. Interment will be alongside her late husband and daughter in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church Piscataway.
