udge Melvin D. Benitz 'Here come da Judge!' On January 31st, Judge Melvin D. Benitz departed this life for the next... He is terribly missed by his loving family Monica, Alex, Sky & Snowy Cortright, Viva Elizabeth Benitz, Elesa Rectanus of Orlando, John, Maria, Duncan, Finn & Zoe Benitz of Los Angeles, Barb & Ed Stiffler of Virginia, Emmanuel Quidet of Paris, and his loving ex-wife, Bobbie Benitz. Mel started his career as Assistant Attorney General in Fairbanks, Alaska. He was elected Prosecuting Attorney in Calloway County, MO. For thirty years, Mel was in private practice which culminated in an appointment to the Federal bench where he served with distinction for twenty years. He recently retired just before his 85th Birthday. Mel was the hardest working man in and out of the courtroom. He loved his family, a good cigar and vintage cars. If we could hear him now, he'd be saying, "I'm still here". A celebration of a life well lived is scheduled for Friday. Judge, job well done.
