homas Lydon, 84, Senior Judge, U.S. Court of Federal Claims, died March 1, 2012 at Rockville Nursing Home from complications following a car accident that occurred in September 2011. He was born on June 3, 1927 in Portland, Maine to John and Annie Conroy Lydon whom immigrated to the US from Ireland. He attended St. Dominic’s Catholic School and graduated from Portland High School in 1945 and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946 and went on to get his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine, Orono, ME in 1952 using the GI Bill. He received his Law degree from Georgetown Law School in 1955 and a LLM from Georgetown Law School in 1957. He was employed as Trial Attorney, Civil Division, and U.S. Department of Justice 1955 – 1967. He then became Chief, Court of Claims Section, and Civil Division 1966 – 1972. He was Appointed Trial Commissioner, U.S. Court of Claims 1972 – 1982 and then Judge, U.S. Claims Court 1982 – 1988; thereafter he was appointed Senior Judge, U.S. Court of Federal Claims 1988- 2003 and Senior Judge (inactive) 2004 until his accident. He was a resident of Fort Washington, MD for over 40 years and a member of St. Columba Catholic Church in Oxon Hill MD where he was a Communicant. He loved to travel with his wife. They travelled to Europe, Bahamas, Bermuda and many parts of the U.S. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Verano Lydon, who died September 7, 2008. He is survived by his sister, Mary A. Whalen of Brunswick, Maine, a niece, Maureen Whalen of Portland Maine and a nephew, Tom Whalen of Brunswick Maine. Friends may call at St. Columba Catholic Church, 7800 Livingston Rd., Oxon Hill, MD on Thursday, March 15, 2012 from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Entombment Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Columba Catholic School, at the church address or Boys and Girls Club of America, Resource Development, 1275 Peachtree St., NE, Atlanta, GA 30309-3506.
