homas Ignatius Baldwin of Severna Park, MD passed away on Thursday, July 30th at the age of 89 surrounded by his wife and family. Born on April 3, 1926 in Annapolis, MD to the late Frank and Belle Baldwin, along with brothers, Robert and the late Charles and Frank and sister, Bernadette Darrow. Thomas attended St. Mary's Elementary School and was a 1943 graduate of Annapolis High School. He attended Johns Hopkins University Engineering School before being drafted into the war. Thomas served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and when he returned, graduated from Cornell University in 1949. After a short stay at Baltimore Gas and Electric Co., Thomas joined and expanded the family business. Under his leadership, Reliable Contracting Co. Inc. grew to become the largest site work contractor in the state of Maryland. In addition, he built or participated in numerous commercial, industrial and residential developments. Always generous, he was inspirational as a lifelong volunteer, community leader and philanthropist. He was a founder and president of Providence Center, Associated Builders and Contractors Chesapeake, and the Anne Arundel Medical Center Foundation. Thomas was president of the board for Anne Arundel Medical Center, MD Highway Contractors Association, Anne Arundel Trade Council and a board member of Catholic Charities, Christendom College, and the Anne Arundel Association for Retarded Citizens. He was also instrumental in the development of the School of the Incarnation in Gambrills, MD. He has been the recipient of numerous awards, such as Business Leader of the Year by Anne Arundel Trade Council, Anne Arundel County Outstanding Philanthropist of the Year, the Providence Center Community Award, and inducted into the Anne Arundel Chamber of Commerce Business Hall of Fame and the MD Highway Contractors Association Hall of Leadership. A lifelong Roman Catholic, Thomas received the papal honors of the Sovereign Order of Malta, the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem and the Order of St. Gregory. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Peggy Armstrong Baldwin; daughters, Christina (Brian) O'Meara and Patricia Baldwin; sons, Thomas I. Baldwin, Jr., Jay (Colleen) Baldwin and Michael (Gina) Baldwin; grandchildren, Liam (Emily), Allison (Zach), Alexis (Max), Keenan and Conor O'Meara, Anna, Bethany, Michael, Ryan, Amanda, Cecelia and Alexander Joseph Baldwin and great-grandchildren, Finn and Cormac O'Meara and Zoe Keenoy. Friends are invited to celebrate Thomas' life from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm on Tuesday, August 4th at his residence, 647 Lakeland Road South, Severna Park, MD 21146. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am on Wednesday, August 5 at Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church, 1070 Cecil Ave., Millersville, MD. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
