Thomas Edwin Bowman - Obituary

homas Edwin Bowman, aka Ed, Dad, Grandpa, and Papa, a 20-year resident of Churchton, MD, passed away peacefully at home with family on Sunday, October 1, 2023. He was 84. Ed is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Ann Marie; daughter, Amy and husband, Kevin Hodgson; stepchildren: David and wife, Eileen Ashby Jr., Michael and wife, Jennifer Ashby, and Joanna and husband, Craig Melton; nephews: Robert “Bobby” Moran and Dale Moran; 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 great-nephews and a great-niece; and numerous family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Eva Bowman, sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Richard Moran, and grandson, Connor Ashby. Ed was born in Floyd County, VA on July 3, 1939. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren. He graduated from Floyd High School, worked at a furniture factory, and then began a program in electronics. In November 1961 he proudly enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, worked as an avionic communications technician, and retired in August 1976 as a Master Sergeant. He was a woodworker, guitar player, singer, electronics and technology lover, a friend to all, and always willing to help others. A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 8, 2023 starting at 2pm and followed by a Memorial Service at 4pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. Ed will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. The family requests in lieu of flowers a donation be made to an organization of your choice.
