homas "Tom" Matthew Harrison, 59, of West River, MD passed into eternal life on Sunday, March 10, 2024. Tom fought a valiant fight against cancer with grace and dignity. Born on May 7, 1964 in Monterey, CA to James and the late Bettie Harrison, Tom's journey was one filled with adventure, service, dedication, joy and laughter. Although Tom was a quiet man, he had a wonderful sense of humor and had a unique way of bringing smiles and laughter to those around him. He dedicated himself to his career at General Dynamics Information Technology Division as a Project Manager and Team Leader. An enthusiastic music lover, he was an electronic mastermind who enjoyed repairing vintage stereos. He also enjoyed fishing, cooking, travel and playing games with his wife and family. These passions were only surpassed by his love for his father, wife, children, and the apples of his eye which were his four beautiful grandsons. Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Joanne Handler of West River; his father, Colonel James L. Harrison, U.S. Marine Corp (Retired) of Annapolis; his children, Eleanor Harrison of Philadelphia, PA, Samuel Harrison of Annapolis, MD, Kate (Ian) Abrey of Glen Burnie, MD and Lane (Ryan) Stewart of West River, MD; his four grandchildren, Cooper and Jack Stewart, Owen and Luca Abrey; his sister, Lori (Geoffrey) Parkins of Jupiter, FL; his brother-in-law, Lee (Jane) Jensen of Amherst, WI and many nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his mother, Bettie Harrison; his mother-in-law, Lucile Jensen, and his brothers-in-law, James and Mark Jensen. Tom's memory will continue to bring joy and inspiration to all that were fortunate to have known him. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Tom's life on Saturday, May 4, from 11 am until his memorial service begins at 1 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home and Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Kidney Foundation or the SPCA of Anne Arundel County, 1815 Bay Ridge Avenue, Annapolis MD 21403.
