T

homas P. “Tom” Monahan, 87, a resident of Edgewater, MD for 11 years and previously of Frostburg, MD, died of natural causes at Anne Arundel Medical Center on December 11, 2008. Born December 12, 1920 in Lonaconing, MD, he was a 1940 graduate of Beall High School in Frostburg, MD. He was employed as a union sheet metal worker, and then advanced to become a sheet metal business agent. After retiring from the sheet metal business he went to work with the federal government until retiring in 1992. Mr. Monahan served in the Merchant Marines during WWII. He was a member of the Bowie Elks and the Knights of Columbus, Council 1442 in Frostburg, MD. He was especially proud that he attained 4th degree Knight Status. Thomas enjoyed tinkering in the garage. In 1953, he married his beloved wife, Margaret V. Buskirk Jeffries Monahan, who died in 1998. He was the father of James Jeffries of Frostburg, MD, Patty Ernest of Edgewater, MD and the late Carl William Jeffries. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by five siblings: John, Arthur and Mary Monahan, Dory Ritchie and Cecilia Seibert. A Memorial Mass will be offered on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 44 E Main St., Frostburg, MD 21532. Interment private.
