n October 26, 2010, Tony Gannacone, Jr., lost his courageous battle with cancer and was called home to God. He died peacefully at his home in West River of 24 years surrounded by family. Tony was born June 24, 1945, in Belfry, Kentucky, to the late Tony Gannacone and Lydia Blair Gannacone. He left Kentucky when he was 18 after graduating from Belfry High School to come to Maryland, but maintained close ties and many friendships with his family and friends in Kentucky throughout the years. After graduating from the Police Academy, he had a successful twenty year career with the Annapolis City Police Department before retiring to be become a “gentleman farmer” raising and taking care of horses, goats and any stray dog or cat that wandered his way and enjoyed the opportunity to be a stay at home dad with his youngest daughter. He loved sports and played softball and baseball well into his adulthood. He was the devoted and beloved husband of Linda Dove Gannacone for most of their adult life. He was a devoted and loving father to Christina Lyn Gannacone of West River, Susan Renee Deputy of Davidsonville and Tony Gannacone, III, of Boca Raton, Florida, and the life lessons and guidance he provided them will remain with them forever. In addition to his wife and children, he is blessed to be survived by six wonderful grandchildren, one sister Ora Lee Castle of Florida and Bud Williams of Kentucky, his brother-who was a surrogate father to him after the death of his own father when he was just a child. Preceded in death were siblings, Samuel Cyrus, Betty Williams, Samuel Gannacone. A memorial service will be held at Chesapeake Christian Fellowship, 377 W. Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD, 21035, on Friday, October 29, 2010, at 1 P.M. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Tony’s name to SPCA of Anne Arundel County, 1815 Bay Ridge Avenue, Annapolis, MD 21403 or Days End Horse Farm Rescue, 1372 Woodbine Road, Woodbine, MD 21797-8514.
