Travis Haire - Obituary

CDR Travis Wilson Haire of Kaneohe, HI, passed away on Friday, October 9, 2015 at Tripler Medical Center in Honolulu. He was 39. Haire was born on February 24, 1976 in Lexington, Kentucky. He graduated class of 1994 from East Liverpool High School in Ohio. He attended the Naval Nuclear Power School followed by graduating class of 2000 from the United States Naval Academy. Haire served aboard the USS Parche, the USS Maryland, and was Flag Secretary to the Superintendent of the Naval Academy. He was most recently serving as the Future Operations Officer and Submarine Liaison Officer at Naval Special Warfare Group Three in Pearl Harbor, HI. Haire’s personal awards include five Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals and four Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals. In 2013, he married Joshua Polanco and they lived together in Annapolis, MD, San Diego, CA, and made a home for themselves in Kaneohe, HI, with their Saint Bernard, Daffodil. In addition to Joshua and Daffodil, Haire is survived by his parents, Hal and Deborah Haire, his sister Tracie Haire Kerstetter, brother-in-law Jon, niece Rylie, and nephew Colton, his brother Troy Haire and sister-in-law Missy, and a tremendous camaraderie of friends. Memorial services were held at the Pearl Harbor Memorial Chapel on October 15. A viewing for friends and family will be held on October 22 from 6 to 8pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. A funeral service will be at the United States Naval Academy Chapel on October 23 at 10:00 AM. Haire will be inurned in the Academy’s columbarium immediately following the service.
