Vaia Goudounis - Obituary

aia Goudounis, 93, a 61-year resident of Annapolis, MD died on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at her home. Born February 15, 1929, in Oropedio, Grevena, Greece, to the late George Filiopoulos and Daphne Tsiovalopoulou Filiopoulos, she owned and operated Capital Tailor Shop on West Street for over 30 years. Vaia was a longtime member of the Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church and Agia Anna Philoptochos Society. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, traveling, and flower and vegetable gardening. In addition to her parents, Vaia was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Evangelos Goudounis, a brother, Christos Filiopouos, and a sister, Kaliope Toliopoulos. She is survived by a daughter, Soultana "Susie" Efthimiadis and her husband, Kyriakos of Annapolis, MD; two brothers, Konstantine and Phillip Filiopoulos; and two grandchildren, Haralambos "Bobby" Efthimiadis and Anna Efthimiadis. Friends are invited to celebrate Vaia’s life on Thursday from 5 to 8 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. A funeral service will be offered on Friday, July 22 at 11 am at Ss. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 2747 Riva Rd., Annapolis, MD. Interment St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Cemetery.
