Valerie Atwell - Obituary

alerie Lee Atwell, a 28-year resident of Harwood, MD, died at her home on Sunday, June 12, 2016, of brain cancer following a 19-month illness. She was 59. Known to everyone as Val, she was born on June 21, 1957, in San Luis Obispo, CA to Virginia Lee Taylor and the late Ray F. Hinton. Val graduated from Southern High School in Harwood, MD in 1975. She was a self-employed horse trainer and farrier. Val worked for On Time Deposits from 1997-2011. She then worked as a bus driver for Annapolis Area Christian School. Val attended the Oklahoma Farriers College and shod horses for over 20 years. She obtained a CDL license with all endorsements. Val loved anything to do with horses. She was also an accomplished artist/sculpture and had several bronzes on the market. Val is survived by her husband of 38 years, Chuck Atwell; a son, Joshua Atwell , his wife, Kelly and their daughter, Emma Marie, of Crofton, MD; a daughter, Tori Atwell of Harwood, MD; her mother, Virginia Taylor of St. Augustine, FL; and a brother, Steve Hinton of Sumter, SC. Friends may call at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD on Saturday, June 18 from 4 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Interment private.
