asu Murthy, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and community leader, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2024, in Annapolis, Maryland. Born on February 25, 1940, in Bangalore, India, Vasu lived a life rich with love and purpose that touched the hearts of many. A proud alumnus of the National Institute of Engineering in Mysore and Brooklyn Polytechnic University in New York City, Vasu enjoyed a long career in engineering while nurturing an insatiable curiosity for knowledge. His professional journey took him across continents as he worked and traveled through numerous countries. Each destination enriched his understanding of diverse cultures and deepened his appreciation for humanity's shared experiences. Vasu was an accomplished engineer and a passionate advocate for the Kannada language and culture. As a founding member of the Kannada Koota of New York, and an active leader in the American Kannada Koota Association (AKKA), he played an instrumental role in fostering connections and promoting charitable causes within the international Kannada community. His commitment to preserving cultural heritage inspired countless individuals to embrace their roots while navigating life abroad. The family was at the heart of Vasu’s life. He is survived by his devoted wife, Bhagya; sons, Jaitra and Pavitra; their wives, Susie and Leah and seven grandchildren who cherished every moment spent together. He is also survived by 1 brother, 3 sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. The warmth he shared created lasting memories filled with laughter and love—a testament to Vasu’s unwavering dedication to his large family. In addition to his professional achievements and community involvement, Vasu had an adventurous spirit that led him and his family around the globe—each trip adding another layer to his vibrant personality. Whether exploring ancient ruins or savoring local cuisines with family by his side—he embraced each experience wholeheartedly. As we gather to honor this remarkable man whose legacy will forever resonate within our hearts—and particularly among those who knew him best—we invite you to a cremation service on December 17th at 2 PM at Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road in Edgewater, MD. Though he may no longer be with us in this world, Vasu Murthy leaves an indelible mark on all lives he touched—a reminder that love knows no boundaries nor borders—and that true connection follows him into the next world.
