enus Lona Greenwell, age 84, passed away on November 5 surrounded by her loving family.
Born on January 22, 1930 in Alabama to the late Charlotte and John Smith, Venus was raised in Lothian, MD where she attended Southern High School and was a star pitcher for the school softball team. She retired from the Naval Research Lab and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends at her homes in Heritage Harbour, MD and The Villages, FL. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Charles L .Greenwell; a sister, Valencia and a brother, George. Venus is survived by her 10 children, Ellen Myers of Odenton, MD, V. Loretta Finamore of Escondido, CA, Lynn Sizemore of Mooresville, N.C., Charles L. Greenwell, Jr. of Sunderland, MD, Paula Fitzgerald of Bowie, MD, Charlotte Handley of The Villages, FL, John T. Greenwell of Huntingtown, MD, Mary Biggs of Linthicum, MD, Alice Oliff of Huntingtown, MD and Patricia Kiernan of Clifton, VA; her sisters , Margaret Galardi and Carol Smith and 25 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to Venus' Life Celebration on Friday, November 7 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9p.m. at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. Mass of Christian burial will be offered on Saturday, November 8 at 12pm at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Central Ave., Davidsonville, MD. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church Cemetery in West River, MD.
