Vera Higdon - Obituary

era Jean Massung Higdon, 82, a 52-year resident of Edgewater, died Sunday, October 9, at the Mandrin Chesapeake Hospice House in Harwood due to a stroke the previous week. She was born June 6, 1929 in Westmoreland, PA to the late Carl and Allie Massung. In 1952, she married Thomas Higdon and together they raised four children. Vera was an active parishioner at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Edgewater and a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. She enjoyed gardening but her greatest passion was the time she spent with her family. Vera was predeceased by her husband, Thomas, who died in 2004. She is survived by two sons, Terrance and Joel Higdon of Edgewater; two daughters, Diane Devine of Churchton and Donna Stearns of Severn; four brothers, Carl, James and Ronald Massung of Florida and Duane Massung of Pennsylvania; and three sisters, Peggy Chopp, Claire Meyers and Gail Rosa, all of Pennsylvania. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, T. J., Justin, Jamie and Jenna Higdon; Laurie Thompson; Thomas, Robert, Allie and Carly Devine; and Ethan and Sophie Stearns; and three great-granchildren. Friends are invited to Vera’s Life Celebration on Tuesday, October 11, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 12, at 10 a.m. Interment Lakemont Memorial Gardens.
