Victor J. Ignacio - Obituary

V

ictor Joseph Ignacio passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on August 24 at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church VA from a ruptured aortic aneurysm. Vic was born on April 9, 1939, in Washington DC; the fourth and youngest child of Catherine Agnes (Weckesser) and Macario Canlas Ignacio Sr. Vic graduated from Mackin High School with honors in 1957. After graduation, he joined the Washington DC Air National Guard and served as a radar technician. He was honorably discharged in August 1962. During his duty with the Air National Guard, he also began employment at Lithographic Photo Services in Georgetown DC. Here he met a young, energetic, entrepreneur printer, George Stephenson. After George had grown his business large enough to have a staff, Vic joined the young company as the official third employee. Vic originally handled stripping film and making printing plates which evolved to the production manager and then Vice President of Operations as the company grew. Together, George and Vic built the company into a 50-million-dollar company with over 200 employees. At this point, George sold the company. Both stayed with the company under new ownership and eventually, George Stephenson bought the company back several years later as a much smaller and less successful operation. Vic remained with the company full-time until he retired but worked part-time in accounts payable until 2020. Vic married Carol Sue Long in 1962. They had a daughter, Elizabeth (Beth). Carol and Vic divorced in 1984 but Vic maintained a very close relationship with Beth and her family. Vic married Lottie Ketcham in 2001 after an over 15-year partnership. Vic and Lottie grew into avid Washington Capital hockey fans, became full-time season ticket holders, went to many road games and hockey sporting events, and were members of the Fan Club. They also became Washington Nationals fans over ten years ago and were partial season ticket holders. They also became enthusiastic supporters of the Virginia wine industry and made many day trips to the wineries mainly in Northern Virginia. Vic loved to travel, and they traveled to Europe several times including Greece, Spain, Italy, London, and Paris. Last year they traveled to Bonaire with Beth and son-in-law Danny. Their next planned foreign trip was a Fall Rhine River cruise. And he loved spending time with Beth and her family. Vic was an avid reader and was very proficient in stained glass. His beautiful work adorns their home and the homes of Beth and Lottie’s two sisters. In addition to his parents, Vic is preceded in death by his brothers Macario Jr. (Jackie) and John, and sister Patsy (Jim) Harris. Mourning his loss are his wife Lottie, Clifton VA, his daughter Beth (Danny), Harwood, MD and his grandchildren, Danny and fiancé Danielle, Annapolis MD and Meghan and boyfriend Alex, Harwood MD. Also mourning his loss are his sisters-in-law Terri Ignacio and Pam Tennant; his cousins: Louis Balgos, Saundra, and Larry Maley and the families of his nieces and nephews. A celebration of life service will be held at a future date. The family requests that memorial donations be made in his name to the American Heart Association.
