ictoria A. Butler was blessed to be called home on her 93rd birthday, May 5, 2011. She was born May 5, 1918, in Maynard, Massachusetts to the late Onufry and Helen Jakusik. "Vickie", as she was known throughout most of her life, was one of five children and grew up and was educated in Maynard. She married the late Russell H. Butler "Russ" on June 7, 1942 and together they raised three children. Vickie worked as a secretary for Seaboard Railroad and Bond Bread. She moved to Bowie, MD in 1959 where she helped her husband own and operate Rustorya Kennels until 1981. Vickie was an avid duplicate bridge player and became a Life Master in the 1980s. She helped her husband gain the same distinction years later. Vickie and Russ spent their winters in Clearwater, FL and their summers in Sargentville, ME. While in Clearwater she served as a member of the Ladies Altar Guild at Light of Christ Catholic Church. In Maine, Vickie was renown for her expertise in bridge as well as her mustard pickles, jams and jellies. Vickie was a member of St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Church and volunteered at the Maine Island Nursing Home. In addition to her husband, Russ, who died in 2003, Vickie was predeceased by her sister, Stella, and her brothers, John and Ben. She is survived by her brother, Stanley Jakusik, of Maynard, Massachusetts and her three children and their spouses: Sandra and Jim Starkey of Richmond, VA. Susan and Roy Kilby of Davidsonville, MD, and David and Suzanne Butler of Bowie, MD.. she is also survived by seven grandchildren: Jim Starkey, John Starkey, Suzanne Etgen, Erin Lawrence, Katie Wunderlich, Lauren Snook and Allison Butler, and six great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to Vickie's Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD on Tuesday, May 10, 2011, from 6 to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family Catholic Church,826 W. Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD on Wednesday, May 11th at 11 am . Interment Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
