Virginia T. DiPompo - Obituary

V

irginia “Ginny” Tarleton DiPompo, 84, an 18-year resident of St. Leonard and previously of Upper Marlboro and Camp Springs, MD, passed away at her home on August 18, 2023. She was born on August 8, 1939 in Los Angeles, CA to the late Edwin and Mary Tarleton. Because her father was a member of the U.S. Navy, Ginny’s family moved often across the country during her childhood. She graduated from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School. In the 1990s, Ginny resumed her education and took college courses at Prince George’s Community College along with her daughter, Mary. Once Ginny and her husband, Luke, started a family, she pursued a fulfilling career as a “Domestic Engineer”, making a comfortable home for her husband and daughters. However, once all her children were in school, she decided to pursue other career interests working at the Seafarers International Union. Ginny enjoyed painting, traveling and watching NCIS (especially Mark Harmon). Her greatest joy though was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Ginny was preceded in death by her loving husband, Luke DiPompo; her brother, Edwin O. Tarleton, her son-in-law, Richard Boyd and her granddaughter, Amber Boyd. She is survived by three devoted daughters, Debra and William Brooks of St. Leonard and Lena DiPompo and Mary DiPompo-Boyd, both of Chesapeake Beach, MD; two sisters, Dianne T. Keely of Pennsylvania and Luise C. Hopper of Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Johnny J. Childress, Jennifer Duman, Nicole M. Fant, Anthony L. Fant and Samantha M. Peebles; and nine great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to celebrate Ginny’s life with her family on Wednesday, August 23 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD where Ginny’s funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 24 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow immediately at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Red Cross or Friends of Felines
