Vivian Gills - Obituary

ivian N. Gills, 89, a resident of Edgewater, died peacefully on Sunday August 2, 2015 at Brightview Assisted Living in Edgewater. Vivian was born on June 4, 1926 in Washington, DC, to the late William and Helen Nickolson. She was a former tap and rhythm dancer/performer in New York City and on USO tours. She was the owner of the Helen Nickolson School of Dance for 40 years and her dance troupe was named the Vivianettes. She was also the owner of Century 21 Chesapeake Bay Realty for 29 years, in Mayo, MD and a realtor in Naples, FL. Vivian always followed her heart and lived her dreams. "If you want it, it's out there" and "Aside from that, all the rest and a dime will get you a cup of coffee." In addition to her parents, Vivian was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Reid A. Gills, Jr., who died in 2005, and her sister, Louise Sames. She is survived by her loving children, Sparkle (Roger) Curry of Edgewater, Dennis (Sharon) Gills of Crofton and Major Douglas W. Gills USMC Ret. of Fort Myers, FL; sister-in-law, Rose Low and brother in law Charlie (Barbara) Gills, both of Blue Ridge, VA; her grandchildren, Reta, Vivian, Dennis, Jr. and Steven and her great-grandchildren, William, Alec, Claire, Reid, Ashley, Michael, Olivia, Emily, Hunter. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 6 at 1pm at Lakemont Memorial Gardens, 900 W. Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD 21035.
