alter "Pop" Kernekin, 67, a life-long resident of Edgewater, died suddenly of natural causes Dec. 22 in his home.
Mr. Kernekin was born Feb. 23, 1940, in Odenton, and graduated from Northwestern High School in Prince George's County.
He was a systems specialist with the former Bell Atlantic, now Verizon, and retired after 30 years.
He served in the Army, including service in Alaska.
He was a member of the Woodland Beach Community Church, the Pioneers of America, and the American Legion Post 226 in Mayo.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Gretchen Klee.
Survivors include one son, Ronald A. Kernekin of Edgewater; one daughter, Kim A. Stock of Edgewater; two brothers, Benno and Hans Kernekin of Florida; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Family and friends may visit from 7 to 9 p.m. Thurday, December 27 at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road in Edgewater. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Iterment will be private.
