Wanda McDill - Obituary

anda Irene McDill, 64, of Heritage Harbour in Annapolis and previously of Bowie, died March 20 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a 6-month battle with cancer. Born on April 7, 1949 in Kansas City, KS to the late Joyce and Gordon Lothian, Wanda graduated from Surrattsville High School in 1967 and later attended the Computer Learning Center in Springfield, VA. Once her children were in school, Wanda went to work in 1980 for the Hechinger Company in Landover where she worked her way up to become the Director of Technical Services. In 1996, she took on the same role when she transferred to Marriott Distribution Services in Savage. At the time of her death, Wanda was a kitchen designer for the Home Depot in Annapolis. Wanda enjoyed sewing, knitting, working on cars and playing practical jokes. She liked to work with her hands and used those skills to join her husband, John, to purchase, remodel and sell homes. She also loved animals and children, especially her grandchildren. At the Home Depot, she always had homemade candy or stickers ready to entertain the children of her customers. Wanda is survived by her husband, John McDill whom she married in 1996; three children, Adam Turner of Crofton, Samantha Dutzman of Glen Burnie and Randy McDill of Highland; two brothers, Barry and Kell Lothian; a sister, Kim Hicks; and six grandchildren, Madison, Mackenzie, and Rylee Turner and Jacob, Michael, and Chloe Dutzman. Friends are invited to Wanda’s Life Celebration from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 4 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater where her funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 5. Interment will be at Lakemont Memorial Gardens.
