W

anda Cecile Paxton, 72, a resident of Annapolis, MD for over 40 years and previously of Covington, VA died September 18, 2008 at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. of cancer after a 5 month illness. Born April 29, 1936 in Covington, VA, she received her Associates of Arts Degree in Art from Anne Arundel Community College and her Bachelors of Science Degree in Gerontology from the University of Maryland. She was employed at the Federal Bureau of Investigations as a file clerk, at Anne Arundel Medical Center as an admissions clerk, she also taught Art classes at Anne Arundel Community College, was a homemaker and retired from Maryland Department of Natural Resources as a graphic artist. Her paintings were displayed in the U.S. Capital and in the Maryland State House; she also won many blue ribbons in art shows. She did art therapy with Annapolis area nursing homes. Her memberships included the Maryland Federation of Art and the Red Hat Society. She loved travelling, and traveled to Egypt, Spain, Greece, Turkey, France, Hawaii, Mexico and her favorite, Italy. Her hobbies included art, painting and genealogy. She loved her cats, her family, especially her grandchildren and spending time with her friends. Survivors include her companion, of over 20 years, Charlie Cadle; beloved mother of Don Henderson of Elkridge, MD and Deborah Lafond of St. Leonard, MD; grandmother of David and Michael Lafond, Jr., Sara and Alex Henderson and Ellen Spunt. Friends are invited to Wanda's Life Celebration on Friday, September 26 from 6pm until time of service at 7pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. Interment private.
