Wayne E. Patterson - Obituary

W

ayne Edmon Patterson, 67, died peacefully on March 9, 2023 at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD, with his wife, Anne and his daughter, Claire at his side. Wayne was born in New Rochelle, New York, but in his heart he was a Maryland boy. His lifelong love of music started as a child. His brother Jerry remembers Wayne coming home from one of his first jobs at the local record store and introducing him to the latest bands. Wayne went on to study American Studies at Western Maryland College, now known as McDaniel. Later he studied accounting at the University of Maryland and became a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Financial Advisor. He applied his skill and his compassion to his clients and coworkers at Growth Stock Outlook, where he worked as an analyst for more than 20 years and at FAI, Financial Advantage Inc, from where he retired in 2021. He met the love of his life, Anne Redmond, in New Orleans while he was on a road trip. He couldn’t get her out of his mind after returning home, so he went back to New Orleans and pursued the beautiful Canadian nurse. They married in June 1982 and moved to Annapolis, MD. They were blessed with their daughter, Claire in 1990. Wayne, an avid Rugby player and an enthusiastic follower of the Washington Capitals and the Nationals, was a member of the Severn River Rugby Club. He and Anne and their cherished friends, Denise and Marty O’Neill, had some of their best times while enjoying, playing and watching Rugby at home and abroad. In recent years he traveled the world with his wife and her sister and brother-in-law, Kit and Norm Bolen. They toured Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Costa Rica and Greece. Wayne loved to spend time with children and animals. One of his greatest pleasures was walking and playing with dogs. Children delighted in their Uncle Wayne, because he always had time for them and was present to their young spirits. But Wayne’s real passion was his own family. He lived, breathed and worked for the happiness and comfort of Anne and Claire, “his girls.” Anne and Wayne’s 40 year long marriage provided inspiration and joy to all. Wayne cherished and acted as a living example of his Christian faith. He wove kindness, integrity and compassion into the fabric of the lives of everyone he met. We are all much better people because we knew “Honest Wayne.” Wayne is survived by his wife, Anne Patterson; his daughter, Claire and her partner Brian Harmon; his brother, Gerald Patterson and his wife, Diane Patterson and their children, Justin and wife, Cindy Patterson, daughter, Emily Patterson and son, Mark and his wife, Anne Patterson and their children Alice and James, his sister, Debra and his nephew Erik Darcy. He is fondly remembered by his in-laws, Stephen Redmond and his partner, Glen Thompson, Catherine “Kit” Redmond and her husband, Norm Bolen and their children, Michael, Sarah and David and his grand niece, Ophelia and nephew, Huxley Bolen. Wayne was preceded in death by his father, David Patterson and his mother, Elizabeth Patterson; his sister, Susan Patterson and brother-in-law, Gregory Redmond. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
