ilber “Dan” Daniel Smith, a 24-year resident of Harwood, MD and previously of Riva, MD died on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at Southern Maryland Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born July 29, 1924 in Tallahassee, FL, Wilber served in the United States Marine Corps during WWII and Korea, receiving a purple heart. He was employed in the accounts receivable department for Giant foods for 17 years. Dan was an avid reader, history and geography buff, Baltimore Ravens fan and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles.
Dan was predeceased by two brothers and three sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Mary “Molly” Lillian Smith, whom he married in 1966; a son, Paul David Smith of Harwood, MD; one sister, Jo Brady of Tallahassee, FL.
Friends are invited to Wilber’s Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD on Monday, March 28 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm, where services will be held on Tuesday, March 29 at 11am. Interment Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Crownsville. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
