William "Bill" A. Rinehart, Jr. - Obituary

W

illiam Alfred Rinehart Jr., 85, a fifty-eight year resident of Harwood MD, passed away peacefully at his home on Sept 4, 2023 surrounded by his family. Born on June 23, 1938 in his family home on Bayard Rd. in Lothian to the late William and Nannie Rinehart, Bill graduated from Southern High School in 1956 and would go on to attend Western Maryland College where he played football. Bill worked at the well-known Beverly Farms, in Edgewater, where he met his future wife and the love of his life, Betsy, scooping ice cream and cooking burgers. They married in 1960 and made their family home in Harwood, MD. Bill enjoyed a 33 year career working for the Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks Dept. where he became Parks Administrator. Bill was an integral part of the funding and planning of many of the public parks and recreation fields we have in Anne Arundel County today. Bill loved his family, sports and eating crabs. He spent many hours coaching kids as part of the United Youth Club. He was also a founder of the Old South Athletic Club and Country Club. He enjoyed playing golf, horse racing, playing slots and watching the Orioles and Ravens. Mostly he loved his children and grandchildren and having family meals together. Well-loved for his easy-going nature, Bill spent much of his last years enjoying sitting with Betsy out on their deck listening to classic country music and watching the hummingbirds visit the feeder. Bill had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making everyone laugh. He is survived by his wife, Betsy; his two children, Melissa Hoffman and Rocky (Sharon) Rinehart; his grandchildren, Nick (Nikole) Hoffman, Jordan and Chris Rinehart and his sisters, Catherine Wilde and Joan Lockard. Friends are invited to celebrate Bill's life at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Friday, September 8 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. The family will have a Celebration of Life for close friends and family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made to the CCHS Network, PO Box 230087, Encinitas, CA 92023 or (cchsnetwork.org/donate). Condolences may be made by using the memories tab on this page.
