ILLIAM LEWIS BRASHEARS, SR. William Lewis Brashears,Sr. ,89, a lifelong resident of Mayo, died of heart failure on Saturday May 24, at Anne Arundel Medical Center. Mr. Brashears was born September 8,1918 in Mayo,Md. to the late Joseph Lester and Blanche Lewis Brashears.Mr. Brashears attended Mayo Elementary School from 1924-32 and graduated from Annapolis High School in 1936. Following high school he worked at the former Henry B. Myers Gift Shop on West St. in Annapolis from 1936-37 and afterwards worked at the Annapolis Bank and Trust from 1936-38.Mr. Brashears then worked as a budget analyst at the Navy Yard and Naval Gun Factory in Washington, D.C. from 1938-62 and later retired from the Naval Oceanographic Office where he worked from 1962-1972. Mr. Brashears was a Navy WWII veteran who enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles and was an avid Baltimore Orioles baseball fan. He also enjoyed playing harmonica on occasion as well. Survivors include his wife Pearl B. Brashears whom he married on February 15, 1941; a son William L. Brashears,Jr. of Edgewater, a daughter Bonnie L. Ayers of Burnsville,MN.;four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to Mr. Brashears' Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home,PA.; 2973 Solomons Island Road Edgewater,Md. on Wednesday from 12Noon until time of funeral service at 1PM.Interment will follow at Mayo United Methodist Church Cemetery.
