illiam Michael Costa, Sr., a 28-year resident of Annapolis, MD and previously of District Heights, MD, died peacefully at his home on Thursday, November 2, 2017. He was 94. Affectionately known as Bill to his friends, Dad, Pop, and Poppy to his family and Pizza to his co-workers. He was born on August 4, 1923, in Washington, D.C. to the late Camille Elizabeth and Thomas Francis Costa. Bill graduated from Washington, D.C. McKinley Technical High School in 1942. Immediately following high school, he joined the United States Coast Guard; serving as a Seaman First Class from 1943-45. After serving his country, Bill went to work with Washington Gas Light Company; finally retiring in 1983, after 35 years. He was a member of the Sons of Italy, American Legion and Knights of Columbus. Bill was a running back for the semi-professional Washington-based Car Credit football team. He was also an avid sports fan, with rooting interest in the Redskins, Nationals, and Capitals. Bill was a great storyteller with a wonderful wit, positive disposition, easy going and grateful to all who touched his life. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 57 years, Evelyn F. Costa; and two siblings, John D. Costa and Thomas (Pep) J. Costa. Bill is survived by his four children, William M. Costa, Jr. (Barbara) of Laurel, MD, Robert F. Costa (Cathy) of Bowie, MD, Annette Costa Summers (Mary) of South Pasadena, FL and Thomas J. Costa (Yami) of Olney, MD and; five grandchildren, Sarah Ragusa (James), Matthew Costa (Serena) , Emily, Victoria and Nicholas Costa; and one great-grandchild Nicholas Ragusa. Friends are invited to celebrate Bill's life at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD on Wednesday, November 8 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, November 9 at 10 am at Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church, 1070 Cecil Ave, Millersville, MD.
