illiam R. Foreman Bill Foreman (87) died on Sunday, November 20, 2011 in Annapolis, MD. Born in Washington, DC on August 10, 1924 to the late W. Roy Foreman and Florence Herring, Bill graduated from Eastern High School in 1942. He served in the Navy during WW II in the Pacific from 1943 until 1945. He married Elizabeth (Betty) McLean, on May 29, 1944. After returning, he was employed by C&P Telephone Company in 1948 and was employed by the Bell System – ATT in various capacities, working in Washington, DC; Charleston, WVA; and Honolulu, HI. He attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1957 where he completed course work in electrical engineering. One of the highlights of his many years in the Bell System was working at Bell Laboratories on a system to communicate with the astronauts of Project Apollo. He retired from ATT in 1981. He lived many years in New Carrollton, MD where he was active in the Boy Scouts, New Carrollton Boy’s Club and Lanham United Methodist Church, serving in may leadership roles. In retirement he and Betty enjoyed traveling and sailing in the British Virgin Islands. They moved to Heritage Harbour in Annapolis in 1993 where they enjoyed playing tennis, golf, square dancing and water aerobics. Bill was a life-long Redskins fan and an avid supporter of every team his sons and grandchildren supported. He is survived by Betty, his wife of 67 years, and his sons, Dr. John Foreman of Durham, NC, Roy Foreman of Ocean Pines, MD and Daniel Foreman of Crofton, MD; five grandchildren, Sean Foreman of Burlington, NJ, Timothy Foreman of Glen Burnie, MD, Matthew Foreman of Greenville, SC, Jennifer Foreman of Durham, NC, and Marisa Foreman of Crofton, MD, two great grandchildren and nine nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his sister, Betty Carpenter. Friends are invited to Bill's Life Celebration from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, November 25 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 26 at Calvary United Methodist Church, 301 Rowe Blvd., Annapolis, MD 21401. Interment will be at Maryland Veterans’ Cemetery, Crownsville on Monday, November 28 at 11:30am. Donations may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church.
