William B. Gates - Obituary

illiam “Bill” B. Gates Sr., 83, of Fort Washington, MD, passed away at home on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on September 5, 1941, to the late Clarence A. Gates and Mary Hazel Gates, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Clarence M. Gates and Francis C. Gates. Bill was the devoted husband of June C. Gates for 61 wonderful years. He is also survived by his daughter, Lorraine M. Thompson (Spanky), and his son, William “Billy” B. Gates Jr. (Cristie). Bill’s greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was especially proud of his three grandchildren, Sydney Siwecki (Jarred), Hannah Herridge (Noah), and Amanda Thompson (and her daughter, Aryanna), along with his great-grandson, Dillon. His career spanned 42 years with DC Water Control. Bill enjoyed time spent with family and friends, was an avid NASCAR fan, and had a deep passion for gardening and farming on the land where he was born and raised. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Piscataway (Our Lady's Chapel), 13401 Piscataway Road, Clinton, MD 20735. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, 8000 Woodyard Road, Clinton, MD 20735. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of William B. Gates to St. Mary's Catholic Church of Piscataway.
