n Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 3:20am at The Washington House located in Washington, DC the Lord extended His mighty hand and touched the spirit of our loved one William Lee Lewis Sr. Welcoming his soul for eternal life. William Lee Lewis Sr. (Wimp) was born May 25, 1937 in Drewyville, Virginia to the late Floyd Lewis and Rosa Powell. He grew up and attended South Hampton County Public Schools in Franklin, VA. In his early Childhood, he was a member of Pleasant Shade Baptist Church. In his teen years, William was employed with Camp Union in Franklin, VA, Planting Pine Trees on interstate 35. In 1957, he was married to the late Gladys Louise Lewis. This marriage brought about 4 children, William Jr., Rosa Mary, Waverly Sr., Josephine and a devoted granddaughter Lakeshia, who they raised as their own. In 1965, the family decided to move to Washington, DC for new Beginnings and better opportunities in life. Those opportunities soon began in 1968 when he was hired for employment with National Park Services located in Washington, DC. After 31 years of services in 1999, he decided to retire from National Park Services. After his retirement, being the active man that he was he decided to work at C.W Strittmatter trucking Company based in Manassas, VA. He was involved in various construction projects locally including Bowie Towne Center and The National Harbor. He decided to retire in 2008 from the trucking industry to use his time and talents helping the community. After his retirement, he saw the need for transportation in his community so he decided to start Williams Transportation Services, where he helped by transporting the people in the community from the local Grocery stores to their homes. William loved playing cards, bowling, fishing, riding his Harley and spending time with family and friends. During his relaxation time, he loved watching Western movies and Family Guy. His favorite episode was when Stewy’s head was flattened. He also loves Football; he was a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan. His favorite saying was “Let them boys get at you”. William will be greatly missed. He was a legend, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great, great grandfather, brother, brother in-law, father in-law, uncle, cousin, best friend to all… William has now ascended into heaven to join his beloved wife of 53 years, his parents and brother. He leaves to cherish his memory, loving daughter Margaret Scott , loving son William Jr., loving daughter Rosa, devoted son Waverly Sr., loving daughter Josephine, loving daughter in-law Patricia Lewis , loving daughter in-law Helen Yorkshire, loving brother George Lewis, devoted brother Roy Lewis, devoted sister Eliza Lewis, devoted niece Charlene Moore, devoted cousin Leola Jackson, three loving sisters in-law Margaret Bradshaw, Ernell Goodman and Evelyn Newsome, four loving brother in-law Leroy Newsome Sr., Dock Bradshaw Jr., Edmond Newsome and Theodore Goodman, 21 loving grandchildren, 32 loving great- grandchildren and one loving great- great- grandchild, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
