istrict Heights resident William J. Lewis, 83, died May 1, 2018, after a long illness. He was born in Washington, D.C., to William and Jessima Lewis. He was a printer/proofreader for the Washington Post and the Government Printing Office and finished his career with the U.S. House of Representatives, where he retired in 1997. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid chess player and competed in the World and National Opens in Las Vegas. He also loved playing fantasy football with his family. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Anna M.; children William J. Lewis Jr. (JP), Cheryl LaNore (Janice), Christina Riojas (Joe), and John Lewis (Lisa); nine grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Calvary Catholic Church in Forestville, MD.
Relatives and friends are invited to William's Celebration of Life on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Calvary Catholic Church, 6700 Marlboro Pike, Forestville, MD 20747. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.
