William E. Lewis - Obituary

illiam “Bill” Eugene Lewis, 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 13, 2022, due to age-related illnesses. Bill was born in Washington, DC on September 11, 1928, to the late Raymond and Pauline (née Werking) Lewis and grew up in Bradbury Heights, MD. He graduated from Maryland Park High School and enjoyed a long and fulfilling career as an auto mechanic and later as a salesman for Chevrolet. He used to say “I love the sound of a smooth running engine.” Bill cherished his family. He coached little-league baseball and served as President of the East Pines Boys & Girls Club. He was a big fan of the University of Maryland basketball and football teams as well as the Washington football team. He never missed the games. Bill was preceded in death by his wife and high-school sweetheart, Kathleen “Kak” (née Hersey) Lewis, and his second wife, Mary Lewis. Bill and Kak raised four children in Riverdale (East Pines), MD who survive him: son, Greg (Teresa) Lewis, daughter, Karen Lewis, son, Rick Lewis, and daughter, Lori (Lorenzo) Sanchez. Bill is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Jennifer (Enriquez) Mackie, Erik (Anna) Lewis, Scott (Justine) Enriquez, Jessica Lewis (Jason) Neuman, Sophia Sanchez, Carly Sanchez, and Kelly Sanchez and 6 great-grandchildren: Adriana Mackie, Charlie Mackie, Christian Mackie, Leo Quart-Enriquez, Lauren Lewis, and Rui Quart-Enriquez. Extended family includes step-daughter Brenda Lee Sanford. Step-granddaughter, Gretchen Sanford. Step-great grandchildren Hannah, Hailey, and Jacob. Family and friends may visit at the Kalas Funeral Home and Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD 21037 on Thursday, February 24 from 10AM until Bill’s funeral service begins at 11AM. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 4111 Pennsylvania Ave., Suitland, MD 20746. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Luminus Health AAMC 2000 Medical Parkway, Belcher Pavilion, Suite 604, Annapolis, MD 21401.
