illiam “Bill” Joseph Milligan, 83, of Harwood, MD, died on February 7, 2009 at Anne Arundel Medical Center. Born April 19, 1925 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Marguerite Fitzmaurice and William Joseph Milligan, Jr., he attended Gesu Grammar School, St. Joseph's Preparatory School and was a 1949 graduate of St. Joseph's University, all of Philadelphia, PA. Mr. Milligan served as a navigator in the United States Army Air Corps from 1943-45, where he attained the rank of 2nd lieutenant and flew 35 missions over Germany. He began his career as a statistician with the Census Bureau in Suitland, MD and retired in 1979 from the Bureau of Labor Statistics in Washington, DC. His hobbies included reading, gardening and raising beef cattle at his home. Bill was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Davidsonville, MD and was a life member of the Knights of Columbus-St. Pius X Council in Forestville, MD and the South County Council #8251 in Churchton, MD. He was also a member and volunteer at the South County Senior Center in Edgewater, MD. He was the beloved husband of Alicia “Pat” O'Brien Milligan; father of Mary P. Burroughs of Salisbury, MD, William J. Milligan of Oakton, VA, Hugh J. Milligan of Alexandria, VA, Michael P. Milligan of Columbia, MD, David J. Milligan of Myrtle Beach, SC, Paul E. Milligan of Columbia, MD and the late Stephen A.Milligan, who died in 1990; and brother of the late Anna Mary and Marguerite Mary Milligan. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren. A Memorial Mass will be offered on Friday, February 13 at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD. Interment private. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the South County Senior Center, 27 Stepneys Lane, Edgewater, MD 21037. Arrangements by the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, Edgewater, MD.
