William Robert Moore - Obituary

W

ILLIAM “Bill” ROBERT MOORE, SR. On Thursday, October 25, 2018, Bill Moore passed away suddenly at the age of 88. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 53 years, Mary Ann (Berg) in 2006, and was the father of four children, eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Bill, a resident of Annapolis, MD, was born in West Tarentum, PA, on October 4, 1930, to the late Catherine P. (Fox) and Harry R. Moore. He joined the United States Air Force in 1948, where he became a Senior Radio Mechanic, until leaving the service in 1952. Bill worked in the aerospace field as a government contractor with RCA and GE. He was a Control Center Manager and was responsible for tracking satellites. He took great pride in what he did, and in being a part of NASA’s early space race. He fully retired in 1997. Bill loved spending time with his family, and took delight in being a puppeteer and performing magic tricks for his grandchildren, who called him “Pap.” He enjoyed telling jokes and riddles, and making people smile, and had a passion for collecting stamps and coins, and was a genuine “Mr. Fix-It” around the house. He was known for his great sense of humor, infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit. Bill is the beloved father of Pamela (Wes) Barrett of Centreville, MD, Joyce (the late Jim) McMurtrey of Annapolis, MD, Kim (Dave) Colander of Midlothian, VA and William "Skip" (Angela) R. Moore, Jr. of Newtown, PA. He was a phenomenal role model for his grandchildren, Daniel, Jimmy, Jennifer, Erica, Bethany, Amy, Chris and Brooke and his great-grandchildren Charlie, Dylan, Mady, James, Boe, and Peyton. He also had a wealth of other family members and friends that will miss him dearly. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Bill’s life from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, November 6, at the Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD, where a funeral service will be held at 11:30 am on Wednesday, November 7.
