ajor William “Bill” Anthony Nogay, USAF Retired, passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2012, in Silver Spring, MD, at the age of 91. His wife of 66 years, Mary Agnes Nogay, was at his side.
William Nogay, the son of Anthony and Veronica Nogay, was born on April 16, 1920 in Youngstown, Ohio and grew up in Weirton, West Virginia. He joined the Army Air Corps at the age of 19 and became a pilot. In 1945, he married Mary Agnes Sagan, daughter of Lawrence and Julia Sagan of Weirton.
Major Nogay was a decorated World War II B-17 pilot, serving in the Air Force from 1939-1959. He flew 48 combat missions, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters and numerous other citations.
He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Agnes Sagan, five children and their spouses: Claude and Maria Nogay of Cheverly, MD; Charles Dorian and Elaine Nogay Walker of Bowling Green, KY; Richard and Claire Beth Nogay of Caldwell, NJ; Brian and Donna Nogay of Silver Spring, MD; Justine and Donald Good of Mesa, AZ and ten grandchildren.
Major Nogay will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 23, 2012.
