W

illiam W. Owens, age 86, a 59 year resident of Annapolis, Maryland, died on Monday, November 24, 2008 at Anne Arundel Medical Center from natural causes. He was born on September 30, 1922 in Baltimore, Maryland. Mr. Owens was a Civil Engineer and retired from the Maryland State Roads Department in 1984 after 34 years of service. During WWII, Mr. Owens was in the US Army and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He participated in a pilgrimage back to the Normandy Beaches to remember D-Day. Mr. Owens was one of the founders of the Annapolis Curraha Sailing Club, besides being a founder, he actually built the boats. He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Annapolis, where he was an usher for many years. He was the past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 1384, the Hibernians and American Legion Post 297. Mr. Owens was an accomplished fisherman, who loved gardening, camping and could fix anything. He spent hours in his woodworking shop at home. His wife of 57 years, Gwendolyn T. Owens, died in 2001. He is survived by sons, Chris Owens of Annapolis, MD and Robin R. Owens of Jefferson, Mass., daughters M. Colleen Hann of Washington, D.C. and Judy Stack of Long Neck, Del. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Mr. Owens Life Celebration will be on Friday, November 28 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8p.m. at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd. Edgewater, Md. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, November 29 at 9:00a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Annapolis, MD. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery.
