William Sears - Obituary

W

illiam Earl Sears, Jr. (Bill), 84, passed peacefully in his sleep at his home in Harwood on June 22, 2012. Bill was born on September 16, 1927 in Annapolis, MD to the late William E. Sears, Sr. and the late Grace (Hurlock) Sears. He was a lifelong resident of Anne Arundel County. He graduated from Annapolis High School and attended Anne Arundel Community College. During WWII, he served in Japan with the Army of Occupation forces, 34th Infantry Regiment, and later in the Reserves. He worked several jobs before obtaining employment with the U.S. Naval Academy. By the time he retired in 1983, he had earned several promotions and was serving as a Computer Operations Supervisor. He enjoyed history and living in the country, walking in the woods, observing animals, traveling, watching and reading mysteries like Sherlock Holmes. Bill enjoyed country music and country gospel. He especially enjoyed talking to people and would much rather do business in person than using ATMs or paying bills online. Bill was very personable and enjoyed life with his family. Along with his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his sisters, Dorothy and Barbara. Bill is survived by his wife of 59 years, Florence (Lewis) Sears; his daughters, Susan Sears Lang and her husband Alan and Patricia Sears; three grandchildren, Kevin, Becky and Christy Lang and one brother, Richard Sears. A memorial service will be held on Saturday July 7 at 11:00AM at the Galesville United Methodist Church, 4825 Church Lane, Galesville, MD 20765. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name can be made to the church memorial fund.
