illiam George Selkirk, Formerly of Fort Washington, Maryland, Passed away at Rockingham Memorial Hospital on February 19, 2009. For the past 6 months, he lived in Bridgewater, Virginia.
Mr. Selkirk was born on February 28, 1917 in Sisseton, South Dakota and was the son of George B. Selkirk and Margaret Katherine Beaulieu Selkirk. He spent most of his school years at Pipestone and Flandreau Indian School. During World War II, he worked for the Ordinance Department with the Department of Commerce working on overseas shipments of war materials. He also worked for the National Park Service and Bureau of Indian Affairs for a combined total of 42 years as a highway engineer and cartographer. Bill was a great grandson of Chief Waub Anaquot, who was the last reigning chief of the Chippewa tribe. His father for heredity reasons was given the name Chief Little White Cloud. Bill was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Fort Washington, Maryland. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Rosetta Selkirk ; an infant daughter, Irene; a grand-daughter, Kayle; a brother, Robert; a sister Margaret; and a nephew, Phillip.
William is survived by a daughter, Patricia, and her husband Paul; three sons, Robert and his wife Libby, Gordon and his wife Denise, and Charlie and his wife Tammy; a sister, Joyce Conner; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a niece and two nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 at Kalas Funeral Home in Oxon Hill, Maryland on Sunday, February 22. A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 23 at 11 AM at St. John's Episcopal Church Broad Creek, 9801 Livingston Rd., Ft. Washington, MD.
