illiam J. “Bill” Stifter, 90, a resident of Annapolis and formerly of Rockville, MD, passed away on May 24, 2018. Born on March 6, 1928 in Winsted, MN to the late Edward and Gisella Stifter, Bill attended the Minnesota State School for the Deaf and pursued a college degree at Gallaudet University, graduating in 1952. He worked for the Government Printing Office and the National Association of the Deaf. Bill was a member of the Kappa Gamma Fraternity and Columbia Typographical Union. He enjoyed woodworking, golf, poker, going to the beach and reading.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Alyce Bean Stifter; one son, Terence E. (Cheryl) Stifter of Rockville; five daughters, Cynthia Stifter (Michael Frey) of State College, PA, Amanda Stifter of Arnold, MD, and Sheila (Thomas) Kling, Margaret Stifter and Rosemary (Kenneth Hadley) Stifter, all of Annapolis; two brothers, Edward and Linus Stifter both from Minnesota; four grandsons, Terence Stifter, Jr., Jack Kling, Benjamin and Samuel Hadley and one granddaughter, Jennifer Stifter.
Friends are invited to celebrate Bill’s life with his family from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29 at the Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 30 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Road, Annapolis. Interment will be private.
