infield “Winn” Alexander Hicks, 88, a 50-year resident of Edgewater, MD and previously of Washington, D.C. died on April 13, 2009 of natural causes at his home. Born November 23, 1920 in Virginia, he graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Washington, D.C.. Mr. Hicks was a Liaison Pilot in the United States Army from 1942-46 and served in the Continental United States. He piloted and maintained a small liaison airplane of 185 horse power or less for purpose of ferrying officers, taking aerial observers on observation missions, or transporting small amounts of critical material. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 226 in Edgewater, MD. He loved flying, going to lunch with friends, keeping his yard neat and clean and doing yard work. He was the beloved husband of the late Patricia A. Hicks; father of Nancy Hicks Ward and Susan Hicks, both of Edgewater, MD; brother of Dorothy Patterson of North Carolina and the late Lucille Stainback; former husband of Marjorie Loftus; he is also survived by 2 grandchildren, 5 grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
