Zehaitu Beine Harvey - Obituary

ehaitu Harvey went to be with the Lord the afternoon of August 16, 2024, after complications following a stroke. She was surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Eritrea in 1951 and moved to the United States in 1972 as a young bride of a US military soldier. As an Army spouse she lived in numerous military bases and eventually settled in Silver Spring, Maryland. She then worked at Walter Reid National Military Medical Center for over 20 years and retired as a Histotechnologist in 2017. Zehaitu was an active member of the Kidist Selassie Eritrean Orthodox Church where she was deeply committed to the church community and its philanthropy. Zehaitu is survived by her five children, Aklilu, Veronica “Bila,” Frowene (Elliott), Jay (Teresa), and Zephaun “Toni.” Her thirteen grandchildren, Aklilu II “Akki,” Maia, Adonai, Natnael, Elliott Jr. “Eli,” Moses, Solomon, Aaron, Livie, Alexis, Kiana “Nikki,” Jayda, Kelly, and great-grandson Noah and the father of her children Jay Harvey. Zehaitu was a woman of strong faith, love of country, her culture, and her family. Her life was marked by strength, resilience, humor and unwavering love. She will be remembered fondly and deeply missed by all who knew her. A funeral service will take place on Friday, August 23rd at 10 AM at the Eritrean Orthodox Church: 4465 Old Branch Avenue Marlow Heights, MD 20748. Burial will follow at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens: 200 East Padonia Road Timonium, MD 21093.
