ula Maria Proffitt, a longtime resident of Edgewater, passed away on Saturday, July 14, in Columbia, MD. She was 95. Born on August 15, 1916 in Saint Francis, ME, she attended school there and moved to Washington, DC during World War II to work for the US Army’s Signal Corps. She and her husband Owen were married in 1949. She worked for the State of Maryland in the Office of the Comptroller as a secretary; the job from which she retired.
Zula was a prize-winning quilter who loved reading, cooking, and baking, especially pies. She and her husband loved dancing and travelling together.
Mrs. Proffitt is survived by her husband of sixty-three years, Owen Proffitt; two daughters, Diane Greene of Laurel and Monica Baig of Manhattan, NY; and a niece, Inez Ernst of Potomac. Services private. Interment Lakemont Memorial Gardens. Please sign the online guestbook to the left.
