James R. Stevens, 87, a 51-year resident of Edgewater, MD, passed away on April 14, 2022.  Born on July 22, 1934 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Eva and William G. Stevens II, Jim graduated from Penn State University in 1956 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business.  He enjoyed a lengthy and rewarding career with Victor O. Schinnerer & Co., rising from an underwriter to Chairman of the Board before retiring.  Jim was a farmer too; he raised and sold beef cattle on his farm, Little Flower Hill Farm, in Edgewater and was a member of the Anne Arundel Farm Bureau. He was also an avid sports fan and passionately followed the Penn State Nittany Lions, Maryland University Terrapin basketball team, the Philadelphia Phillies and the Washington Redskins football team.  When he needed a break, Jim loved visiting his home in the Grand Caymans.  Jim and his wife also enjoyed entertaining and hosted a widely popular Christmas party at their home every year.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife, Peggy, who passed away in 2018 and his brother William G. Stevens III.  He is survived by his children, Lynne Prenatt of Annapolis, MD and William “Bill” (Carol) Stevens of Edgewater; 11 grandchildren, Rebecca Mertz, Evelyn Sutton, James Prenatt, Dahlia Quinn, Georgiana, Samuel and Celine Prenatt, and Nichole, Lydia, Eva and William Stevens; and three great-grandchildren.

Friends are invited to celebrate Jim’s life with his family from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 29 at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater.  Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 30 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD. Burial at Woodlawn Cemetery in Easton, MD later that day.
