Garland Lee Love was born to Grady and Doris Love on October 9, 1944 in Norfolk, Virginia. He was the first of five children.

He attended Booker T. Washington High School, Norfolk, Va. 

After high school, he joined the United States Army and served from 1964 to 1968. 
Following his training as a paratrooper at Fort Benning, Georgia, he served at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
He was later deployed to Germany.

He married his sweetheart, Sylvia, on July 8, 1968. Their union was blessed with three children, Kevin, Garland Jr. and Christopher.

After his military service, he worked as a manager at ISS Cleaning Services, Auto Zone and at the toll booths of Dulles Toll Road. He loved the CB radio. For many years, he operated a CB radio base station from the basement of his home. With his handle "#43", he could be heard all around the world using his favorite phrase, "audio, audio, audio." The neighbors were not too happy with that as it interfered with their television reception. 

He loved anything that had to do with cowboys, whether it be cowboy movie, cowboy boots or his favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys. He frequently got teased about his cowboy hats.

He was always supportive of his wife, Sylvia's, many projects.

After a long battle with several health challenges, he passed away on October 26, 2020, 17 days after his 76th birthday.

He is survived by Sylvia, his wife of 52 years, his three sons, Kevin, Garland Jr. (and wife, Sonia) and Chris; 6 grandchildren, Kelvin, Quinton, Javonte, Destiny, Chris Jr. and Vinlencia; two brothers, Grady and Dexter; three sisters Delreace Ames, Doris "Joanne" Paige and Paula West; and a host of nieces and nephews. 
He was also much loved in health, and cared for in sickness by Ms. Rose Mahoney, Ms. Vincine Mahoney and Mr. Thomas McBride.

Christopher R. Kayser, Jr., age 21, passed away on Monday, October 26, 2020 in Great Lakes, IL.

Born on March 28, 1999 in Baltimore, MD to Christopher R. and Renee M. Kayser, Christopher graduated from East Hampton High School in 2017. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 2020.  Christopher was an avid fisherman who spent a lot of time on the waters off the coast of Montauk in Long Island fishing for striped bass and shark. He also liked to snowboard and surf and was a black belt in Karate.

Christopher was preceded in death by his grandfather, Ronald W. Kayser. He is survived by his parents, Christopher R. and Renee M. Kayser; his sister, Maria N. Kayser; his grandparents, Louis and Carol Cusimano and Susan B. Kayser; his aunts, Denise Cusimano and Amy (Mike) Schneider and his cousins, Michaela and Alexandria Schneider. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.

Friends are invited to Christopher's Memorial Gathering at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Central Ave, Davidsonville, MD on Saturday, November 14 from 11 a.m. until the Memorial Mass at 12 noon. Entombment with U.S. Navy Honors at Lakemont Memorial Gardens immediately following the Mass.

Martha R. Stone, “Miss Martha”, a 55-year resident of the Loch Haven neighborhood in Edgewater, MD, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 25, 2020, at Sunrise of Annapolis. Born October 29, 1928, in Sharon, CT, to the late Walter and Marion Bell Rudin, she retired from the Savings Bond Division of the Treasury Department in Washington, DC following a 30-year career.  Miss Martha was a longtime member and faithful part of Chesapeake Christian Fellowship in Davidsonville, MD, for 24 years.  She loved her church and all her friends at CCF, painting, gardening, and dogs.  Miss Martha was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Harold P. Stone. Friends are invited to celebrate Miss Martha’s life at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Thursday, October 29 from 5 to 7 pm. Anthony Richard “Vic” Vigorito, 87, a 16-year resident of Gambrills and previously of Temple Hills, MD, passed away on October 24, 2020.  He was born on April 2, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Pasquale and Marie Vigorito.  After graduating from high school, Vic enlisted in the U.S. Marines in 1952 and later transferred to the U.S. Air Force.  In addition to duty stations in the states, Vic served in the Philippines and Germany.  His last duty station was Andrews Air Force Base from which he retired in 1971 at the rank of Master Sergeant.  Shortly thereafter, Vic joined the U.S.  Secret Service and spent the next 20 years serving five Presidents as a member of the Foreign Dignitary Protection Security Division.  Because he was fluent in Italian, Vic was assigned as the lead agent for both visits to the United States by Pope John Paul II.  
While on home leave in January 1956, Vic met Ann D’Eredita on a Sunday evening blind date.  Love blossomed quickly and they were married the following Saturday.  Theirs was a story of love and friendship that continued to bloom for the next 59 years.  
Vic’s laughter was engaging and he loved to entertain family and friends with jokes and stories from his military and Secret Service careers.  In his younger years, he played fast-pitch softball in the Philippines.  He also coached his daughter’s softball league in New York and his son’s little league baseball team in Camp Springs, MD.  Vic and Ann were avid bowlers and, in their later years, enjoyed visiting casinos in Delaware and Maryland.  Most of all, Vic was devoted to his family; their happiness was always his first priority.
Vic was a former member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Clinton, MD and most recently attended Holy Family Catholic Church in Davidsonville, MD.     
In addition to his parents, Vic was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ann; his son-in-law, Alberto DiPompo, both of whom died in 2015 and by his aunt, Margaret Omert.  He is survived by his daughter, Deborah DiPompo of West River, MD; his son, Michael and wife, Bethany Vigorito of Woodbridge, VA; two grandchildren, Joseph and his wife, Jeannine DiPompo of Perry Hall, MD; a great-granddaughter, “My Little Girl”; one aunt, Josephine Molarini of Long Island, NY who was more like a sister to him; his devoted companion, Donna Trott of Solomons, MD; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.  
Friends are invited to celebrate Vic’s life with his family from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, November 1 at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD.  Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 2 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD.  Burial private.

Martha Ann Lewis, 88 of Annapolis, Maryland, previously of Edgewater, Maryland, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2020. Martha was born on January 5, 1932 in Fairview, North Carolina, to late George A. Stevens and Annie Stevens.  She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and Annapolis Yacht Club.  

She is preceded in death by her husband C. Scott Lewis, her brother George Stevens, Jr. and son, Mark Lewis.  She is survived by her children, Kermit R. (Kerry) Lewis of Fredericksburg, VA, Rebecca (John) Starrett of Waterford, CT, Elizabeth Lewis of Annapolis and daughter-in-law Becky Belanger Lewis of Edgewater, also eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.  Martha’s genuine spirit of optimism, fun and warm hospitality will be remembered by many.  Martha kept pushing through recently with little regard to pain or inconveniences she may have had over the past few years.  

The spark within her soul helped her rule out any negative aspects of illness and concentrate on positive things including travelling, bible studies, family and friends gatherings and artistic hobbies. Martha retired from Anne Arundel County Public Schools as a Librarian Assistant after over 20 years. She worked at several schools in the County including Edgewater, Benfield, Eastport and Annapolis Elementary.  But her greatest love was her family and she was wonderfully devoted to her four children.  

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Martha’s life on Saturday, October 31, from 12pm until her funeral service begins at 1pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, Maryland.  A private interment will be held at the Lakemont Cemetery in Davidsonville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church in Annapolis and to the South Anne Arundel Lions Club in Galesville, Maryland. Megan Beatty Cintron, 54, a long time Crownsville resident, died peacefully on Saturday, October 24 surrounded by her family, after a valiant battle with cancer. Born in Rockville Centre, NY on November 12, 1965 to Mary and the late George E. Beatty, Jr., Megan was raised in Shoreham, NY. A graduate of Lehigh University with a BA degree in the Fine Arts, her passions included cooking, interior design, fashion merchandizing, and philanthropy.  She brought a sense of style to organizing fundraisers for several charities including the Children’s Cancer Foundation and Make a Wish Foundation. Megan was a member of the Annapolis Yacht Club, Chartwell Golf and Country Club, Punta Mita Golf Club and a former member of Shoreham Country Club. In addition to her mother, Megan is survived by her husband of 26 years, Rocky D. Cintron and their children, Nicholas (Courtney), Regan and Griffin Cintron, all of Crownsville; her mother-in-law, Rita Cintron of Crofton; her siblings, Jennifer (Philip) Drower of Wading River, NY, Michael (Nathalie) Beatty and Laura Beatty (Jeffrey) Manning all of Annapolis and sister-in-law, Heidi (Bob) Young of Richmond, VA. Meagan was an inspiration for dozens of aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces. Born in Florida in 1929 and raised by loving parents who loved music and family, Christina was a natural singer.  She grew up with her four sisters, Daisy, Grace, Barbara and Ethel, and younger brother Samuel in a loving environment.  After her father passed and her older sisters departed for New York City, she later joined them where she finished school and took voice lessons and sang as a Soprano Soloist in the Church of the Masters Choir in Harlem, and earned commissions to sing at weddings and events.  She met her husband, Hurriah Chapman and they were blessed with three wonderful children, Johann, Pia, and Pietro.  While raising her children, Christina continued her singing and dancing with personalities such as Babatunde Olatunji and Miriam Makeba, and became a popular person to call for background solo sounds at other studios.  Later, an opportunity from her Agent came that changed her life – an interview as a personal receptionist for Harry Belafonte.  Someone would late ask why take the job as a receptionist when you can sing?  Because it’s for Harry Belafonte!  She got the job!  She was the best they ever had!  She worked the job until the family received orders to go to France in 1963.  In France, she continued her voice training and sang at many venues, culminating in her completion of a solo album called “Negro Spirituals”, with the Paris American Choir.  Upon returning to the United States, she sang as a Soprano soloist in the Fort Myer Virginia Chapel Choir.  After another European tour in 1968, she returned to Ft Myer Chapel and resumed her singing until she retired.  Mrs. Chapman has earned many accolades and awards for her singing and has sung at a myriad of weddings across the Washington Metropolitan area over the decades and has received numerous certificates of appreciation for her service to Military Chapels in Europe and at Ft Myer.  She will be greatly missed.

Robert Elmon West, 91, of Fort Washington, Maryland, beloved husband of the late Macy Cooper West, passed away October 22, 2020.  He was born in Erwin, North Carolina, to the late Gertrude West Cooper and Elmon West.  

Robert valued and exemplified love of family, generosity, loyalty, resilience, and love of country.  He was a proud Korean War veteran.  After military service, his career revolved around education and coaching.  For many years, he was a physical education teacher and football coach at Oxon Hill Senior High School.  He spent the remaining 20 years of his career as an educator and associate dean at Prince Georges Community College.  He enjoyed being with his family and friends, golfing, watching sports, and spending time at Myrtle Beach, and the family lake house in North Carolina.  

Robert was preceded in death by his wife and soulmate, Macy, to whom he was married for almost 66 years.  He leaves to mourn his beloved children Keith West and Lynn Linde (Karl), grandchildren Macy Ketcham (Jeremy), Karl Linde (Renae), Clarissa Linde, Cooper Linde (Sarah), Dietrich Linde (Carlie), Caroline Vining (Louis) and his great-grandchildren Hope Ketcham, Caleb Ketcham, Hannah Ketcham, Kylie Ketcham, Kezia Ketcham, Jayden Linde, Priya Linde, Kevon Linde, Henry Linde, Cecilia Linde, and Annin Linde.  Robert was predeceased by great-grandchildren Alvin Linde and Azzi Linde.  He is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Born on January 1, 1955, in Takoma Park, MD to the late Larry and Jane Faye Morgan, Sharon was a statistical typist for most of her career. She was a longtime member of Job's Daughters International and enjoyed reading, gardening, and arts and crafts.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 22 years, Steven L. Hubbard.  Sharon is survived by her two children, Christopher L. and Sarah L. Elizabeth "Liz" C. Hurley, 97, of Annapolis, MD passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2020. Liz was born on August 21, 1923 in Washington, DC to the late Paul and Helen Cramer and was a graduate of Wilson High School. She spent 18 years working for IBM in the Federal Systems Division located in Gaithersburg, MD as an Executive Secretary. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Annapolis who loved golf, and spending time with grand and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Ronald Hurley and a son, Ronnie. She is survived by her sons, Michael of Bethany Beach, DE and John of Lahaina, HI;  grandchildren, Jennifer and Patrick; great-grandchild, Joshua.

On Thursday, October 15, 2020, Judith "Judy" Kay Kline, age 74, passed away at Mandrin Inpatient Care Center, Harwood, MD. Judy was born on November 13, 1945 in Kenosha, WI to Henry J. and Melva Hoague Wood. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two of her grandsons, Logan and Ethan Kline. She is survived by her husband, Ronny G. Kline; her sons, Rodney Straight, Ronald G., Kevin D. and Matthew A. Kline; her sister, Sandy Palmer and her grandchildren, Alex, MacKenzie, Aubree, Nathan, Olivia, Pyper and Quill.

Col. Marcel Leo Vigneault, USA(Ret.) beloved husband of the late Charlotte Vigneault, passed away at the Walter Reed Medical Center, Bethesda, MD on Tuesday, October 13, 2020. He was born in Hartford, CT to the late Ulric and Annonciade Luneau Vigneault. Marcel was a devoted father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte. He is survived by his children, Denise Hayward, Michelle (Kirk) Weeks, Gisele (Walter) Raley, Danielle (Michael) Davis, and Joseph Vigneault. He was also survived by his brother Gilles (Gil) Vigneault; sister Lucille Queyrane; ten grandchildren, great granddaughter as well as many other relatives and friends.

Joselito Pita Vergara, better known as Jessie, age 72, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, October 11, 2020. His much deserved rest comes after battling heart and kidney failure.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Joselyn, better known as Arlene; his daughter Jennifer and her husband James; his daughter Jaclyn, her husband Joel, and their son Liam; and his daughter Jessica, her husband Gabriel, and their daughters Amorelle, Amaris, and Amera. He was predeceased by his sister, Jing, and also leaves behind his surviving siblings: Melba, Jimmy, Jerome, Joyce, and Mayeen; many nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family members and friends.

Jessie was born in Lucena City, Quezon Province, Philippines to Jose and Emerenciana Vergara. He came to the United States once he enlisted into the US Navy. In the mid-1970s, his assignment brought him to the DC area where he met Arlene through mutual friends. With the assistance of Arlene's Uncle Gus and Auntie Naty, Jessie was transferred to the White House mess staff. During his 26 year career in the Navy, Jessie was able to help his siblings move to the states and subsequently bring over their own families. Jessie and Arlene settled in Fort Washington, MD in 1981 and raised their family with the help of Arlene
's Mother, Lily.  After his discharge from the Navy, Jessie became a mail carrier for the US Postal Service and worked for another 18 years. Jessie was a fan of all sports, from boxing to football, car racing to cycling and UFC to bowling. At parties and gatherings you could count on him to hit the dance floor or grab a mic for soulful karaoke. He was also a man of faith, finding joy in serving in his church at St. Michael's on Bolling AFB and enjoying fellowship with the FCJC community. Jessie will be remembered as kind and generous, a hard worker, and a dedicated family man. He is dearly loved and is missed beyond measure.

Viewings will be at Kalas Funeral Home, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd, Oxon Hill, MD 20745 on Sunday, October 18 from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm. The funeral mass will be at St. Columba Catholic Church, 7804 Livingston Rd, Oxon Hill, MD 20745 on Monday, October 19 at 10:30 am.  Jessie will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Celia Alvanos, 89, of Annapolis, MD passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2020. She was born on August 24, 1931 to the late Peter and Grace Evans in the town of Ewell, MD located on Smith Island. Celia's career outside the home was spent in state government. She worked 30 years as a legislative reference and spent time as the secretary to the President of the Senate, Mike Miller, and as an administrative assistant to George Manis of Manis Canning and Associates. Celia was also active at her church of Ss. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church. She was a 50-year member and former board member of Agia Anna Philoptochos. Her Greek pastry creations such as, kourabiedes, and koulouraka and meals of pastitsou will be missed. In addition to her parents, Celia was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years ,John Alvanos. She is survived by her two sons, Pete (Barbara) Alvanos of Annapolis and Costa (Michelle) Alvanos of Chester Springs, PA; a sister, Janice and her son, Gregg Spriggs of Annapolis; and her grandchildren, Jonathan, Christopher, Theano, Kaitlyn, Sarah and PJ Alvanos.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Celia's life on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 from 5 until 7 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD 21037. Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 am at Ss. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 2747 Riva Road, Annapolis, MD 21401. Interment will follow at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Cemetery in Annapolis.

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Frank Stanley Kravitz Jr., 80, of Annapolis on October 8, 2020, after a valiant, five year battle with multiple myeloma.

Frank was born on December 17, 1939, to Frank Stanley Kravitz Sr. and Josephine Dzerzinski Kravitz in Wilkes-Barre, PA.  At a young age, his family moved to Baltimore.  Frank graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute in 1957.  He graduated from the University of Maryland with a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and received his master’s degree from George Washington University.  Frank worked as a Senior Engineer at IIT Research Institute, now known as ALION, where he worked on communications and supported the US Army through his work for over 40 years. 

Frank was an avid skier and met his wife at an Annapolis Ski Club event.  They were married on May 6, 1978.  He also enjoyed sailing, traveling with his family and listening to jazz music. He loved cars, watching the Baltimore Ravens, doing research on the computer, reading mystery and science fiction novels, and cuddling with his grand pups.

In addition to his parents Frank was preceded in death by his sister, Gloria Davis and an infant brother, Richard Kravitz. 

Frank is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Cathryn Kravitz; his son and daughter in law, Michael and Natalie Kravitz; brother, Tom Kravitz; daughter, Lucinda Rezek, and her children, Jordan and Melody; numerous nieces and nephews and two grand pups, Gretchen and Savannah. 

A celebration of Frank's life will be held on Wednesday, October 14 from 11am until a service begins at 12pm at the Kalas Funeral Home and Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd, Edgewater, MD. Social distancing guidelines and masks are required.

Sallie Ann Haynes passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2020 at the age of 73 at her home in Edgewater, MD after a short but courageous battle against cancer. Sallie Ann was born in Washington, DC on November 21, 1946 to Howard Haynes Jr and Leila (Sater) Haynes, both deceased. She attended Regina High School (’64) and Catholic University (’68). She was an accomplished actress, a world traveller, an animal lover, an avid beach goer, a gifted gardener, a fierce friend, a staunch liberal, a true ally, and the best mother a daughter could possibly have. She is survived by her daughter Katherine Leahy of Austin, TX, and her beloved chocolate labrador, Chewie.   Family and friends are invited to celebrate Sallie Ann's life on Sunday, October 18th from 1 PM until her funeral service begins at 3 PM at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. On Wednesday, October 7, 2020, Warren M. Schaeffer, Jr., age 81, passed away at his residence. He was born on January 3, 1939 in Washington, DC to Warren M. Schaefer, Sr. and Florence Schaeffer. He worked for the Federal Government and then started his own HVAC Business. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Carol Viado. He is survived by his wife, Joan Schaeffer; his daughters, Darlene (Daryl Kichen) Johnson and Dawn Karp; his grandchildren, Kelcie Kitchen, Matt & Kimberley Johnson and Sophie and Noah Karp; his great-granddaughter, Ezzy and his brother, Kenny Schaeffer. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
