udith (Judy) Lynn Hutchinson September 20, 1945 – February 14, 2025 Judith (Judy) Lynn Hutchinson, 79, passed away peacefully at her home in Annapolis, Maryland, on February 14, 2025. She is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 27 years, Ken; her children, Ryan (Sarah) and Shannon (Mike); her stepson, David (SungEun); her stepchildren, Brad and Tammie (Jim), from a previous marriage; her daughter-in-law, Leigh; her sister, Fran; and 11 cherished grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Margaret, her stepmother, Mollie, and her stepson, Chris. Born on September 20, 1945, in Akron, Ohio, Judy spent her childhood traveling the world as the daughter of a U.S. Navy Commander, a JAG officer. She lived in Arlington, Va., the U.S. Territory of Guam, Alameda, Calif., and Yokohama, Japan. A 1963 graduate of Alameda High School, she was a spirited leader of the yell team. One of her fondest high school memories was intercepting a pass and running it back for a touchdown in a flag football game. She later earned a degree in psychology from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, in 1967, where she was a proud member of the Chi Omega sorority. Judy’s love of politics led her to Washington, D.C., after college where she worked as a congressional aide for U.S. House of Representatives Ohio congressman Clarence Miller. She was once recognized in Roll Call, the newspaper of Capitol Hill, as one of the most beautiful women “on the Hill.” Her elegance, style, and grace were admired throughout her life. Judy raised her children in Athens, Ohio, where she was actively involved in local politics. She worked on various campaigns before becoming an elected official, serving as Athens City Auditor for more than a decade. Her financial expertise earned her two re-elections, and she was instrumental in modernizing the city government, helping to implement technologies such as email and spreadsheets in the early 1990s. Later in life, Judy found great happiness settling in Annapolis with her husband, who had been in her heart for 66 years. She cherished the town’s Navy traditions and its proximity to national politics. An avid sports fan, she cheered enthusiastically for Navy and The Ohio State University football teams and was a skilled tennis player who competed in local leagues and was thrilled to attend the U.S. Open. In Annapolis, she built a strong community of friends, including her “Women In Transition” group, and was a beloved member of her homeowners’ community for more than 20 years. She had a magnetic personality and a genuine warmth that made everyone feel welcome. A passionate advocate for equal rights, she remained deeply engaged in current events and politics. She was a creative, strong, and intelligent woman who kept her mind sharp with books and crossword puzzles, a hobby she shared with her husband. Judy loved animals, plants, flowers, cooking, and all things Irish and Japanese. She enjoyed traveling and was grateful for the opportunity to visit Ireland and South Korea in recent years. Above all, she was a devoted mother and stepmother, raising two strong, successful children and embracing her stepchildren with love. Her grandchildren adored her, and she treasured many special lifelong friendships. Judy’s kindness, strength, and radiant spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Kalas Funeral Home in Edgewater, Maryland, with details to be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a cause very close to Judy’s heart, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, P.O. Box 22324, New York, NY 10087 or www.lls.org. Online condolences may be made using the Memories tab on this page.
