Nora Janet Morris, a 17-year resident of Davidsonville, MD and previously of Bethesda, MD, died on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at her home surrounded by her family following a one and half year fight with pancreatic cancer. Born on June 9, 1965, in Washington, D.C. to Emilce and the late Octavio Valderrama, Nora was a loving homemaker and mother. Nora was a longtime member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Davidsonville, MD.  She enjoyed baking, travel, Lake Life, reading, and giving.  Nora's three greatest loves were her family, her faith, and her friends. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her beloved husband of 22 years, Brian Morris; two sons, Evan and Connor Morris and two siblings, Carlos and Ingrid Valderrama.
A memorial Mass will be offered on Thursday, April 26 at 11 am at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD 21035. David Kienast, 77, a resident of Davidsonville, MD for 44 years and previously of Glenn Dale, MD, died on Wednesday, April 18 at his home. Born on September 27, 1940 in Washington, DC to the late Charles W. and Anna Hoover Kienast, Dave graduated from Bladensburg High School and attended the University of Maryland in College Park. He served as an aircraft mechanic in Vietnam with the Air National Guard from 1968-69. Dave was vice president and general manager of York Service, Inc. in Washington, DC and enjoyed maintaining the family's horse farm in Davidsonville. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judy Lee Kienast; his children, Michael of Glen Burnie, MD, Kathryn of Davidsonville, MD and Roberta of Havre de Grace, MD and his grandchildren, Harry, Zachary, James, Lucy, Rebecca, Sophie, Sarah, Abigail and Ellie. He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Kienast. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 29 at 2:30 PM at All Hallows Brick Church, 3600 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD with a reception to follow at the parish hall. Frances Morris Dryer, age 98, a resident of Annapolis, MD since 1999, died on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at her residence in Ginger Cove. She was previously a resident of Edgewater for approximately 32 years and prior to that of Washington, DC, Riverdale and Lothian, MD. She was married in Richmond, VA on November 23, 1957 to David Alan Dryer of Washington, DC. She was born on October 2, 1919 to Russell Fisher Morris and Nellie Tinder Morris in Richmond, VA and graduated in 1937 from Chester High School in Chester, VA and later from the Pan American Secretarial School in Richmond. She worked for the U.S. Government as a secretary from 1941 to 1966, retiring from the Agency for International Development, where she worked for eight consecutive Assistant Administrators for the Far East. She enjoyed reading, knitting, travel and her church. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Annapolis, NARFE, Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 46 of Annapolis and the United Methodist Women of Trinity. She enjoyed planning trips and activities for the seniors of her church, with a group called, "Young at Heart" for 25 years. She and her husband sang in the church choir for many years. They traveled extensively in Europe, Israel, Morocco and the U.S., including Alaska and Hawaii. She and her husband enjoyed 23 winters at their condominium in Cocoa Beach, FL. She is survived by her niece, Nancy Hardman Crenshaw of N. Chesterfield, VA; her nephew, William R. Hardman, Jr. of Mechanicsville, VA; her beloved goddaughter, Barbara Masemore of Philadelphia, PA, a great-niece, three great-nephews, two great-great nieces, two great-great nephews and her husband's nephew, Stanley G. Green of Annapolis and his son, Steven M. Green of Edgewater. She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 51 years, David A. Dryer in 2008 and her sister, Elizabeth Morris Hardman of Richmond, VA. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 2 at 11:30 am in the Annapolis Room at Ginger Cove, 4000 River Crescent Dr., Annapolis, MD. George Mckinley Shiflett celebrated a long-anticipated homecoming to meet his Savior April 15, 2018.  George was reunited with the love of his life, Emma Jean Shiflett exactly six-months from her homecoming. He was also reunited with his daughter, Debra Olshaw (d February 7, 2017) and grandson, Joshua Olshaw (d October 24, 2015). George was delivered at home June 29, 1923 in the village of Whitehall, Virginia. He was the oldest and last surviving child of George A. and Bertha Shiflett. 
George faced many hardships growing up. There were few material possessions, but the family had a strong Christian faith that sustained them. George told of one year receiving an orange for Christmas and how much he treasured that gift. When George was in high school his entire family was mysteriously poisoned by arsenic. George suffered the worst effects. He became paralyzed from the neck down. Determined to continue his high school education, he was tutored at home, dictating all of his assignments. He graduated from high school in a wheelchair and by his college graduation walked across the stage on crutches. He never complained about the disability or chronic pain, instead he focused on regaining his skills. George was the first in his family to graduate from college, the class of 1946 at the University of Virginia. He moved to Annapolis, Maryland using his chemistry degree at the Naval Engineering Experiment Station, from which he retired in 1981 after a 34-year career. 
In 1952 George was introduced to Jean Whisman on a blind date arranged by their mutual friend, Yvonne Moreland (Burns). George started to tutor Jean in math, the sessions evolved into dates revolving around church activities. They exchanged vows on July 2, 1953 at the First Church of the Nazarene in Annapolis, Maryland. Many of those attending the service remained life-long friends. 
George and Jean established their home in Lindamoor and welcomed daughters, Coni and Debi into the family. Over the years George shared his interest in gardening, travel, photography, basket weaving and bird carving with the girls. He had a magic touch with plants and patiently nursed plant cuttings that others found too difficult to pursue. He and Jean enjoyed several cross-country trips in their RV van. George did all of the driving; one time, with a broken pelvis, he drove all the way from Washington State to Maryland. He was a devoted Christian and over the years in his quiet, unassuming way served his Lord as a church board member, trustee and, for years, as treasurer. George never turned down an opportunity to serve his Lord and was often heard singing very off key his favorite hymns. George is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Coni and Bob Giannini and their children, Neva Giannini (and Jan Henriksen), Tessa Giannini, and Mara (and Joseph Collinson lV); Son-in-law, Bob Olshaw and granddaughter, Abigail Olshaw also survive him. A very special “adopted daughter,” Fran Fridrich provided loving care and support to George and Jean for over four years. They both greatly benefitted from her compassionate care. The staff of Brightview South River and Hospice of the Chesapeake kept him comfortable during his final days. Many friends and family visited and were touched by his sweet spirit. A private burial and family service will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake.

Florence Alberta Lewis Sears, affectionately known as Flo, lived a full life of 90 years.  On April 14, 2018, while surrounded by family, she succumbed to congestive heart failure and made her anticipated journey home to be with the Lord. Born on May 22, 1927 in Annapolis to the late Lawrence Albert and Lillian Marie Connaway Lewis, Flo was a lifelong resident of Anne Arundel County, spending over 50 years in Harwood, MD. She graduated from Annapolis High School in 1944 and earned an Associate of Arts degree in Accounting from Anne Arundel Community College in 1981. Flo enjoyed traveling the country with her late husband of 59 years, William "Bill" Earl Sears, Jr., who passed in 2012.  Her hobbies included creating award-winning models of lighthouses and buildings, gardening and completing jigsaw, word search and crossword puzzles.  She treasured time with her family and dearly loved her grandchildren. She was a long time member of Galesville United Methodist Church and for the past six years had been involved with the Thursday morning Bible Study Fellowship in Severna Park, MD. In addition to her husband and parents, Florence was preceded in glory by her older sisters, Josephine and Melvine.  She is survived by her daughter,  Susan M. Sears and her husband, Alan Lang and her grandchildren, Kevin, Becky and Christy Lang.  A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at 3 PM at Galesville United Methodist Church , 4825 Church Lane, Galesville MD 20765.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name, may be made to the church memorial fund.

On April 13, 2018, Carolyn L. Hall passed from this life to her eternal rest.
Carolyn was born Edna Carolyn Litz on August 18,1932 in Hot Springs, Arkansas to Jake and Ruby Katherine (Midkiff) Litz. The small family welcomed a son, Stanley Darrell Litz, 11 years later. 

Carolyn lived most of her young life in Arlington, Virginia where she eventually graduated from Washington-Lee High School. In 1954, while volunteering at the USO in Washington, D.C., she met a handsome Marine, danced with him and fell quickly in love. On April 3, 1954 they married and she became Mrs. Richard Hall. In July of 1955, Richard and Carolyn started their young family with the birth of their son, Michael. Later, in November of 1956, their daughter, Kristi, was born and their family was complete.

Carolyn enjoyed a rewarding 30-year career with Prince George's County Public Schools as the secretary of Forest Heights Elementary. She bandaged countless knees and elbows, spent many afterschool hours searching for students who had not gotten home yet and even removed a staple from a child's nose. She was secretary, nurse, seamstress, counselor, fill-in Principal and back-up Mom to literally thousands of kids and their kids over her career, and she loved it.

Carolyn was highly skilled at needlepoint and her work is still visible in the kneelers that adorn the alter of Oxon Hill Methodist Church. She also loved music and lent her beautiful soprano voice to the church choir for over 40 years. Carolyn was deeply committed to the Lord and worshiped at every opportunity.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her beloved soul-mate, Richard, her parents, Jake and Ruby, and her brother, Stan. She is survived by her son, Michael, his wife Cathy, their children, Stephanie, Nathan and Melissa, daughter Kristi Wright, her husband Kevin and their children Jonathan Haas (Amanda), Kelly Heilmann (Eric), Jackie Du (Bach), and Shawn Wright. Carolyn also cherished her 8 great grandkids Nolan, Alora, Haliyah, Emma, Lucas, Austin, Cody and Dawson.

Phyllis June Fisher died peacefully on April 13, 2018 in Annapolis, MD; she was 99 years old. Phyllis was a loving wife and mother living in the family home in Rochester, NY for over 60 years.   

She was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Ford Fisher, her parents Phillip and Esther Wolz, and her brother Donald (Jean) Wolz of Pittsford, NY.  She is survived by her son Stephen (Cheryl) Fisher of Edgewater, MD; grandchildren David (Daria) Fisher of Ridgefield, CT, and Lindsay (Chris) Appoldt of Greenlawn, NY; four great-grandchildren, and her family in California.  Private family services will be held in Rochester, NY.

Stephen “Steve” Edward Angell, Sr., 69, of Milton, DE, and formerly of Edgewater and Davidsonville, MD, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2018, after a lengthy fight with pancreatic cancer, in Milton, DE. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Newton Angell and Mary Kibler Angell, and his brother, Robert Angell. He is survived by his wife of almost 49 years, Joyce (Marcellus) Angell, daughter Shannon Shepherd (Tom) of Sykesville, MD; son, Stephen Angell, Jr. (Christina) of Bozeman, MT; three grandchildren, Brett and Joy Shepherd and Oliver Angell; his brother, Kenneth Angell (Donna) of Seaford, DE, and his twin sister, Sharon Higgs (Raymond) of Edgewater, MD; and many nieces and nephews.



Mr. Angell was born in Riverdale, MD, and moved with his family to Woodland Beach as a teen. He graduated Annapolis High School in 1967 and was a volunteer fireman in the Woodland Beach V.F.D. in the 1960s. Mr. Angell was in the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam from 1969-1970. He was President of abc Security Corporation in Edgewater, Maryland for 24 years. He served as Governor and Vice President of Corvette Annapolis in the late 1990s and early 2000s. He was a life-long hunter and fisherman, a classic car enthusiast and an expert woodworker. He also enjoyed restoring old items, such as jukeboxes, gas pumps, and soda machines. He loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.

Friends are invited to celebrate Steve's life on Thursday, April 19 from 5 to 8 PM at the Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. Grover C. “Buck” Hardin, Jr. (Age 92)
On Thursday, April 12, 2018, Grover Cleveland “Buck” Hardin, Jr. died peacefully.  He was the beloved husband of the late Marilyn Hardin for 60 years, loving father of three children, son Robin (Jane) of Modesto, CA, son Jon Andre of Oxon Hill, MD, and daughter Rhonda Stiver of Reston, VA, loving grandfather to Amy Stiver and Jennifer Hardin, and two great grandchildren, Gina Marie Lange and Royce McCoy.


Grover served in the United States Navy for 20 years during World War II, Korea, and the Vietnam War.  Following a brief stint at the US Postal Service, he began his career with the FAA in Flight Service.  A native of Caroleen, NC, He was an active member of the Oxon Hill United Methodist Church, NARTU (Naval Air Reserve Training Unit), and various civic associations.  He was a generous man who donated to numerous charities.  He was also an avid sports fan, enjoyed golf, gardening, and family time.

Katherine “Kay” Lavonne Ainsworth (née Lane), 71, of Annapolis, MD passed away on April 12, 2018 at her son’s home in Naples, FL.  Born on March 20, 1947 in Washington, DC, Kay was the third child of the late Daniel and Katherine Lane.  She graduated from St. Patrick’s Academy in Washington and went on to have a long Federal Government career, working at the Board of International Broadcasting.  In her youth, Kay spent all her summers on the Mayo Peninsula (Beverly Beach) where she was an avid swimmer and water skier.  While living in Annapolis, Naples, FL and Clarkesville, GA, she was very active in her local Baptist churches, teaching children’s bible study and contributing to numerous ministry projects and fellowship groups.  Kay was especially loved by her church-family at Riva Trace Baptist Church in Edgewater, MD.  She will be remembered for her strong faith, kindness and willingness to help others.  
Kay was preceded in death by her husband, John who died in 2012; sister, Jean Jones and brother, Daniel “Buddy” Lane.  She is survived by her son, Kevin Burke and his fiancée, Tiffany Sailsbury; her sister-in-law, Paulette Lane; several nieces and nephews and many other loving relatives and dear friends.  
Friends are invited to celebrate Kay’s life with her family from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, April 19 at the Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. Robert "Bobby" Alvin Parks, Jr, 55, of Friendship, MD passed away at his home on April 10, 2018. Bobby was born in Deale on June 19, 1962 to the late Robert and Eva Parks, Sr . He attended Southern High School. Bobby loved old cars, car shows, drag racing, dirt track racing and deer hunting. He is survived by his wife Cynthia L. Parks; two daughters, Crissy Rusk of Owings, MD and Amber Trivette of Thomsville, NC; and a grand-daughter Madison Rusk of Owings.

.Joseph Ray  "Joe" Navalaney, 89, a resident of Davidsonville, MD for three years and previously of Dagsboro, DE, died of kidney disease on Sunday, April 8 at the Mandrin Hospice Home in Harwood, MD. Born on January 8, 1929 in Cairnbrook, PA to the late John and Anna Navalaney, Joe attended Shade High School and later served in the U.S. Marine Corps aboard the U.S.S. New Jersey battleship during the Korean War. He was a police officer with the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, DC from which he retired after 22 years of service. Joe was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Davidsonville, the Knights of Columbus, the VFW, the American Legion and the Polish Club. Joe was very proud of his Polish heritage, handing down many holiday traditions and customs to his children and grandchildren. He also spent many years as a volunteer providing maintenance and grounds keeping at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchellville, MD. Joe was a devoted husband and father who always put his family first. Joe is survived by his wife of 61 years, Victoria Navalaney; his children, Joseph J. Navalaney and his wife, Yvonne of Owings, MD, Anthony R. Navalaney and his wife, Judy of Dunkirk, MD and Anne C. Cassidy and her husband, Jeff of Davidsonville, MD and his grandchildren, Anthony R. Dennis R. "Denny" Hatfield, 68, of Edgewater and previously of Silver Spring, MD passed away suddenly at his home on Saturday, April 7, 2018. Denny was born in Toledo, OH to the late Beauford and Mildred Hatfield. He earned his BS with Honors from University of Maryland College Park, and his dental degree from The Ohio State University Dental School.  

Denny was the owner and practitioner of Dennis R. Hatfield DDS PC in Greenbelt. He was a 25 year member of Rotary. He was an avid boater who also enjoyed volunteering his time and skills in dentistry, participating in Maryland Mission of Mercy, Maryland’s Donated Dental Program and missionary work in Africa. 

Denny is survived by his only child Heather McCarthy and her husband Patrick of Odenton; a step-son, Woody Fentress of Philadelphia; a granddaughter Kaelyn McCarthy; a sister Deborah Muratore of Nevada and his ex-wife Robin Hatfield.

Shenandoah Rose Kearney, 27, of Pasadena, MD passed away on April 7, 2018.  Born on March 2, 1991 in Clinton, MD to Anna and the late Patrick Kearney, Shenandoah attended Southern High School and worked at the IHOP in Edgewater.  In addition to her mother, she is survived by her son, Carter Rodriguez; sister, Bristol Kearney of Crofton and grandmother, Virginia McDonald.

Dorothy N. Hardesty
(Age 92)

Passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at her home at Brightview South River Assisted Living, Edgewater, MD. She was born March 8, 1926, to Walter Thomas and Dorothy Mae Nicholson. Widow of the late Eugene D. Hardesty; she is survived by her children Donald Hardesty (Diane), Sandra Bailey, Steven Hardesty, Brenda Dodson, and David Hardesty (Kathy), eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Dorothy grew up in the Mitchellville/Upper Marlboro area and graduated from Marlboro High School in 1943. Following a 31-year career with the District Court in Upper Marlboro, she retired in 1991. During her retirement, she was active with the Belair Senior Citizens Club of Bowie and enjoyed many trips and activities with them. Dorothy touched many lives during her 92 years and will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.

Friends are invited to celebrate Dorothy's life on Friday, April 6 at George P. Kalas Funeral Home, Edgewater, MD, from 11:00 a.m until her funeral service begins at 12:00 p.m. Interment immediately following at Lakemont Memorial Gardens, Davidsonville, MD.

Anne (Anastasia) Panor, 93, of McLean, VA and previously of Washington, DC, passed away on Sunday, April 1, 2018 at the Halquist Memorial Inpatient Center in Arlington, VA. Anne was born on April 2, 1924 in Washington, DC to the late George and Zena Panor. She was a 1942 graduate of the old Central High School in Washington, DC and began working for the U.S. Department of State Foreign Service immediately upon graduation. Recognized repeatedly over the 30+ years with the Foreign Service for exemplary professionalism, commitment and dedication, she retired in 1975 from the Office of Personnel. She was a member of St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church. Her interests included traveling and spending time with her dear close friends and family.
In addition to her parents, Anne was preceded in death by her siblings, Sophie Fleming, James Panor and Helen Panor.  She is survived by her nephews, James Panor Jr. and George Panor and his wife, Wendy; her great-nephews, Nicholas, John and Gregory Panor and great-niece, Catherine Panor.  Friends are invited to Anne’s funeral service on April 5, 2018 at 10:00 am at St. Sophia’s Greek Orthodox Church, 2815 36th St NW, Washington, DC. Interment will follow at Glenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Medical Center, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Charles Addison Nisewarner "Chip," 72, a resident of Davidsonville, MD for 47 years died on Sunday, April 1 at his home. Born on February 15, 1946, to the late Charles and Eileen Matthews Nisewarner, Chip was a retired IT Specialist with Oracle Software Co. He met his wife, Anita Nisewarner in high school and they were married on November 26, 1966.  He enjoyed motorcycles, cars, target shooting, and woodworking. Chip was preceded in death by his wife, Anita Nisewarner. He is survived by his daughter, Kelley Sullivan (spouse, Glenn) of Davidsonville, MD, and son, Dustin Nisewarner (spouse, Angela) of Odenton, MD; his sister, Rodi Kadin (spouse, Paul) of Boonsboro, MD; his granddaughters, Jordan P. and Lexy P. Sullivan, and Abigail M. Nisewarner; grandson, Landon C. Nisewarner; and nephew, Richard C. Chapman. Everyone who knew Chip appreciated his kind heart and how he would do anything for you. Chip will be missed, but his memory will live on forever in his family.  Friends are invited to celebrate Chip's life on Friday, April 6 from 6 to 8 PM at the Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD.  A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 7 at 11:00 AM at Lakemont Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Davidsonville, MD.

Richard Earl Driggers, "Richie, " a resident of North Bethesda, MD for over 50 years, died on Sunday, April 1, 2018, at John Hopkins Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, MD.  He was 54.

Born January 19, 1964, at Providence Hospital in Washington, D.C. to Carole A. Driggers and the late Earl Driggers. He graduated from Stephen Knolls Special Education School and Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda, MD.  Richard was in the 1st special needs scout troop in Montgomery County.  He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Garrett Park, MD, a 1st class rank in Special Needs Troop 1342 of the Boy Scouts of America, and a longtime participant with the Special Olympics in Montgomery County. Richie was a collector of hundreds of Matchbox cars and other unique toy cars and trucks.  When he was younger, he enjoyed boating with his family on the South River aboard the  "Sea Spirit."  Richie also enjoyed car shows, Harley Davidson showrooms, and visiting the Fire Department.

He is preceded in death by his father; three grandparents, Oneida J. Driggers, Florence (Hartman) Hibbits and James David Bales.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his sister, Cynthia Marie (Driggers) Duncan of Edgewater, MD; a nephew, Camden John Duncan; a niece, Emily Anne Duncan; an uncle, James H. Bales; a grandfather, Hezekiah Driggers; and several cousins.

Friends are invited to celebrate Richard's life at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD on Monday, April 9 from 6 to 8 pm.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 836 W. Central Ave., Davidsonville, MD on Tuesday, April 10 at 10:30 am.  Entombment at Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton, MD.  Memorial donations may be made in Richard's name to Boy Scouts of America National Capital Area; Special Needs Scouting Program, 9190 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, MD 20814 or Arundel Volunteer Fire Dept., Davidsonville/Gambrills, 2380 Davidsonville Road, Gambrills, MD 21054.
